Xbox 360 PS3

Dot50cal sent us this nice comparison video of both demos of Devil May Cry 4 on PS3 and 360. Very slight differences indeed, but they exist. The WMV version has been encoded in very high quality.

Just a note, I'm using HDMI for my PS3 and component for my 360, and the 360 is sharper.

what? isnt this the change in setting of RGB or w/e, not component vs HDMI

the ps3 image in this comparison clearly doesnt look washed out, so its in the correct setting and thus the comparison is perfectly valid...

Looks better on PS3, thought after playing Heanvely Sword those graphics are nothing to cheer for, looks like a PS2 game in my book.

DMC good series owned all past 3 for PS2 and plan to pick this up at the right time, right now since its not PS3 exclusive and it shows by all the downgrades and horrible graphics & Physics meh i will past.

Alot of people are saying that the PS3 has less RAM than the X360
which is the reason for lower resolution on the textures. Yet on every site
that I've seen it seems to me that the amout is equal. 256MB R Main RAM
@3.2GHz and 256MB GDDR3 VRAM @700MHz is what the PS3 has, while the
X360 has 512MB GDDR3 Main RAM @700MHz which is shared with textures.
From what I understand is that developers can store textures in the
Main RAM of the PS3 as well (correct me if I'm wrong), if they so wish.
Is there something I've missed? If that is the case, please explain.
The huge difference is the OS. The X360 OS uses 32 MB of the 512 MB shared memory. It is known that the PS3 OS used 64 MB of RAM and 32 MB of Video RAM with it's initial firmware, so 96 MB of RAM were unavailable for the game. I don't know how it has changed with the updates though...

LOL, Shaka. You always lighten the mood even though you're not being sarcastic.

It would not really matter if one runs @3.2 Ghz becuase the other 256 ram at 700hz will be the bottle neck.

Actually the split 256mb ram is still a problem. If the dev wants to unify the ram then they have to clock it down to the slower 256 700mhz. not to mention that there both completely different types of ram and there for have different latency times, with the R most likely having the highest.

also, I'm not sure but there may even be restrictions caused by there placement on the board.

Why did Sony do this? Well its anyone's guess. But my guess is that Sony didn't expect MS to use a full 512 megs and had already made plans (and Deals) to use the higher speed R opting for more speed at the sacrifice of low latency. it was to expensive to add in more R and/or to do a redesign for a single 512 of the GDDR3.

PS3rd just "GOTPWNED" LOL. Wow. Truly amazing. Seems PS3 has reached its limit. Strange. Too bad Cell can't make-up for lacking ram and shader efficiency.

Nice comparison shots.. the one w/ the big beasty/boss really make it quite clear which version has nicer textures/image quality.

While it is obvious that the Ps3 has difficulty with 3rd party engines, there performance does not speak for all there titles. Games like Ratchet and Clank and Drake's Fortune show that the PS3 is perfectly capable this gen.

These don't really matter all that much because each person that owns the consoles will claim theres to be the better looking version. Highlight things they have in common like a smooth framerate and great gameplay.

Geeks! Any way if I had a 360 I would get it for that system. But since I only have a ps3 then thats the way I must go.

(Man I gotta get a 360)

It seems I was a bit hasty in saying that the textures were lower resolution on the PS3 version. I cant be 100% certain, but it seems the PS3 is applying a post processing effect which blurs some area's of the screen during motion (and this game doesn't exactly sit still for you). Another thing I noticed is that the 360 has better mipmap tansitions but in odd places, as if its forced LOD to max. It can make things appear really sharp from a distance but it really shouldn't be. Take this set for an example:

360:
http://dot50cal.the-horror.com/gaf/dmc4/3608.png

PS3:
http://dot50cal.the-horror.com/gaf/dmc4/PS38.png

These are both lossless captures, so they should rule out any artifacting. Though as some have pointed out the PS3 shots are a bit more blurred due to the PS3's analog (component) output not being as sharp as the 360's. Thanks goes to the fellas over at Beyond3D for their technical knowledge :)

Oh my god. Do the fanboys purposely ignore the fact that playing DMC4 on the 360 for more than 2 hours at a stretch will probably kill your system? :)

No more than fanboys ignore the fact that if it weren't for RROD issues, they wouldn't have much of an argument in topics like this one ;)

It will be intresting to see what sony fanboys come up with Next Year when all the RROD issues have been phased out.

Since the zephyr and falcon boards failure rates are now at regular levels, so your argument is wearing rather thin.

360 is clearly better. I own a ps3 and 360 and because of the install and the fact the 360 one is better, im getting the 360 version.

Did anyone else find the demo to be utterly boring and sleep-inducing? Kill 3 enemies, watch 5 cutscenes, kill 2 enemies.. Defeat a boss in 2min.
I'm actually putting my money on KUF instead, no matter what the haters say.
Its simply the better game. The bigger game.

And about the texture thing. The ps3 has more core memory for textures, but the 360 has like 3gb/s of memory bandwidth, while the ps3 only has a few megs a sec.. If you cant load the textures, you cant show them.
