THQ releases nine new images of Saints Row 2, which had presentations running two weeks ago in London. The color palette is a bit special, but technically it's far from bad.

Personally i think Saints Row was a BIG brother to GTA. I mean it had more gameplay stuff, better gfx, better physics, better damage modelling and car handling, better combat. More stuff to do. Everything.

the first was a poor mans GTA. with a few thing done better (namely the aiming system) other then that tho it was worse in every respect. the story was laughably bad, annoying characters, un-varied missions etc. it was still good. closest anyone has ever came to topping GTA, but not really close enough. hopefully this wont do like the original and sacrifice performance for looks. cos saints row had some horrible framerate and screen-tearing issues.

as it stands ever GTA is better then this game. even the ...city story's, offshoot games. and i have a sneak suspicion GTA4 will also rape it.

From screens alone, it looks like SR2 may actually look better than GTA4, graphically (obviously nowhere near as good in the gameplay department), and heck, even SR1 looked mostly better... That's why I'm really hoping GTA 4 looks a lot better in motion once we finally get it.

Poor sense of humor, severe performance issues, generic and lame story/plot with some decent gameplay implementation pretty much sums up SR1.

Needless to say, I'm not greatly excited for this one. Still, I won't completely write off this sequel...it might actually turn out half-decent.
Spot on. Anyone thinking SR bettered and surpassed GTA, or even thinks GTA 4 is borrowing from SR1, is stoned IMO.

Nothing touches GTA's humor. And people have the brass neck to slander GTA's graphics.Please. Wind it in. GTA makes this look pathetic visually.

SR is a poor man's GTA - FACT!

Can i ask what specific GTA you guys are referring to when you say SR isn't better then GTA?

And i guess it was a coincidence that the implementation of the Phone is SR would also been in GTAIV?

Obviously you didn't play much of the game then to make those kind of statements, othewise you'd know the main character is infact NOT a mute. ;)
Obviously you didn't notice the same things I did, because I played through the whole game. The character doesn't even answer the phone, someone from the Saints even said that he's no talker. The protagonist has no profile, no "edges", no personality to begin with. I felt like I was playing a doll the whole game (well in the end I was right).

And then there is the whole gangsta chliche, it's worse than in GTA:SA and I liked that more because it was authentic. They went over the top with these things. The interaction between the people was exceptionally bad. The minigames were fun but after doing them over and over again it wasn't anymore. It was a good game over all but in the end I felt relieved when I could finally put the game away.

personally, all of them, 2D ones included. but in terms of pure gamplay (ignoring the story) GTA vice city onwards. the main gripe i had with saints row, was its missions. the story was about as forgetable as they come, but the missions where all the same...which made for a lot of repetition. and thats down to lack of variety with the means of transportation. where san andreas allowed you to tackle missions really freely, by car, plane, heli, bicycle, motorbike, jet pack, on foot etc. saints row consisted of...car missions, and shooting missions...that was it. nothing else. this one should fare better considering it has bikes and airborne vehicles, but then GTA has features and tech which again, takes it that one notch up again, such as the cover system and the crazy star wars force unleashed tech where dudes hang onto stuff. saints row is basically chasing a game thats constantly getting better itself. it'll get close, but not close enough.

GTA is just the far more immersive series imo. the characters are likable even when their the enemy, they're funny, charismatic, everything you really want. saints row however had characters out of a straight to DVD student "gangsta" film. they where terrible.

and while you could argue GTA4 stole the phone idea, you'd be wrong given that phones have featured heavily in the GTA series...remember vice city and that 80's brick of a phone. this is just a natural development of that feature. but even if R* had taken elements from saints row, nothing is as bad as saints row effectively taking the whole GAME from GTA. i mean, theres taking inspiration and theres pure ripping off, and saints row crossed that line.

Inspiration?

Thats like saying Quake was a carbon copy of Doom.

And imo it didn't rip it off at all, it was an open world game based on Gangs and control.

SR has only ever been about gangs, in GTA it was more about you, it was more focused on your character, SR was all about your gang and did their best job to make you feel like it was up to you to bring the gang from the dirt to the skies.

All of the missions were based on hurting the other gangs and taking land for yourself, GTA has always been about being, a merc if you will, never really having an affiliation with any gang, just pulling off jobs for money.

You can't compare ONE game to a series, thats like saying "Half life sucked in comparison to Quake 1,2,3,4 ect ect"

I'm defending SR because i enjoyed the game, and i appreciate the hard work and effort the guys took to make the game under the conditions, the open world genre was wide open on the "next-gen" and they did they're best to make a decent game, if they made a game with Bikes and the works, there would have been no incentive to make a sequel based on the storyline. exactly like GTA3 did, you lack to see the progression that the GTA series was able to take, as you want to compare that progression over 3 games in the 3D format to one game, maybe after SR3 or 4 people can compare the two series, but you can't do that now.

SR had alot of their own great ideas, that we're completely their own, i mean, come on what exactly did they steal from GTA? You can shoot people? You can steal cars? You can play missions for money?

Thats all bs at the end of the day.

SR was a ton of fun. While I do agree GTA had more variety in its missions, it's basic flaw, and one that greatly annoyed me, was combat really really sucked. If it didn't involve shooting then the mission was fun otherwise it was just a pain in the ass. SR it was a lot more fun to be in gunfights and even if the missions were sorta redundant at least they were a lot of fun to do.

People also need to realize that because you can create your own character (absolutely love that feature), it'd be hard to make a voice that would general enough that it would unfathomably large variety of characters you can create. Mass Effect let you do it, but the variety is less extreme, you basically had a serious looking character no matter how you make them. But in SR you can make from a really fat clown to a ultra masculine muscle-man and the voices from one just wouldn't fit the other. With that said, it'd be tough to give the character personality really. Fortunately the NPC had enough themselves and while the story wasn't stellar it was passable and humor was great too. In any case, it's not GTA had some phenomenal story either, just that your character was more involved that's about it.

In any case, I've played all of the GTA's and SR and they both are really good in their own ways. If someone wants to be a fanboy them whatever, that's their prerogative. I'd rather sit back and enjoy a game for what it is than to nitpick little things.

the game WAS a rip off of san andreas imo. hell, originally the gang you where a part of in saints row wore green untill they changed it....PURPLE!!!....hello, GTA san andreas much. i think so.

it brought new stuff to the table but sadly not with much substance behind it. as fun as the insurance fraud was fun, it stopped being fun after the 20th time. 80% was ripped off, 10% was tweeked and about 10% was original, and in some rare cases even better. but for saints row 2 to come close to the sandbox KING...i cant see it happening. im sure it'll be good. since the first game was, but that doesnt stop it being a rip off.

Lol green was ripping of SA? I never even saw anyone wearing green....

Its funny, that you can say the game totally rips off GTA, yet you say it sucks so much, surely if you like GTA so much, you would have liked SR, either way, SR was its own game and doesn't need to be compared to GTA as much as everyone thinks it should.

I hope this one runs more than 15 frames per second. Volition had a great game in SR and did it and their public a horrific crime by releasing a beta.

The gang originally wearing green was a coincidence, they changed it so it wouldn't seem like they were just copying SA. I don't think anyone would deny that Saints Row was obviously heavily influenced by the GTA games, but you just have to look at the new features in GTAIV to see that the majority of them are taking from Saints Row.

Most of the "over the top" gang stuff was done as a parody, like I said, it wasn't supposed to be taking too seriously. And after the first few missions, there is very little of this type of stuff. To me it sounds like you played the demo, and never went any further. This is further backed up by the fact you insist the main character never speaks, when infact he *does*, numerous times. Something you'd know if you had actually played the game. Besides, it's a moot point, seeing as it's confirmed that in the second game, your main character will be fully voice acted.

Odd how he's speaking on the phone there, huh? Complete opposite of what you said? :P

Ha. I think it's pretty obvious SR was a strait-up SA clone in every way. I mean, Volition even said they had to change the gang color from green to purple or risk getting sued. That's how obvious it is. Really fun game, but as much of a GTA clone as humanly possible. Further, it's funny when people try comparing SR to SA, because besides graphics, SR really didn't do all that much more, if anything at all. Rockstar needs a chance at next-gen before we decide which is better. Then the playing field will be level. And so far, from previews and impressions, GTA sounds like it's in a league of its own, just like it's always been. No contest. Because Rockstar made a technical marvel on the PS2 hardware. Volition had 360 to work with, and yet SA was much bigger, had more stuff, more depth, etc. Just wait.

Already played GTA4, hunn?

GTA came nowhere near to the quality of a SR in terms of gameplay elements. Keep sayin the contrary to yer delusional self... maybe you'll start to believe it.
THANKYOU!

GTA is seriously over rated and SR was so much better in every way.

Graphically, this rapes GTA4 too.

When will the R*whores open their eyes??
