Capcom had a great week so far, and what better than nothing less than 71 images of Street Fighter IV to close it? I'm still looking.

Seeing how ugly the characters look, I doubt this game will sell in Japan. Probably won't help matters that they're still using 2D gameplay mechanics in a nearly-dead genre.

What does it matter how it sells in Japan, Capcom have never been concered with Japan only unlike some JP dev's around.

As for the genre being dead you obviously duno what you are talking about.

Personally I think it will do great in Japan and in the west.

Er, it does matter as Capcom is a JAPANESE company. And as for the genre being dead, well it is, in arcades at the very least.

Well maybe it's me but I think this game looks like crap. The graphic are just awful... How anyone can praise this game amazes me.

Graphics aren't awful, just the character models look off, namely the retarded looking faces when they get hit and the dead eyes.

Do you really think this game looks bad or are you just one of those critics that want to be heard. Do you even have an ounce of an art background to back up such comments. This game is going for a different look and it blatantly says "I am not afraid of colors". Change is good.

You may want to try to be more specific instead of only making "ign'ant"-sounding comments.

As a whole, I find the game looks good, but there are things I dislike. The faces do not do the game any favours, and Chun-Li's(maybe other female characters too..?) hands and forearms are too damn big. Also, that airfield level looks pretty bland.

Exactly how I feel about the game. The concept art for the characters look awesome in comparison to the actual models. Hopefully they get closer to that.

I'm pretty sure they aren't changing the characters. What we're seeing is what we're going to get.

Jollipop said that Capcom isnt concerned ONLY with Japan, something thats plain truth. And please tell me which arcades are alive nowadays... you really dunno much about this genre if u think its dead.

Jollipop said before that, "What does it matter what it sells in Japan" and I was responding to that. And seriously, fighting games are dead in arcades.

He's saying that arcades themselves are dead. Keep in mind he's probably not talking about Japan.

I guess I misread him. But he misread what I said. I never said fighting games were completely dead, in fact they are alive and well on home consoles, just dead in what arcades are alive.

Arcades are dead. Fighting games are no more dead in arcades than other genres.. I think they still represent a significant draw for arcades in Japan actually, and if you go to any of the better western arcades (Chinatown Fair, I'm looking at you) they're basically dominated by fighting games and the gamers that play them.

Shmups and Fighters are still significant genres for arcades.. they've just lost appeal against specialty hardware machines that until recently represented experiences that gamers simply could not get at home (DDR, etc).

RE: This games sales in japan..

I don't know what to expect really, but fighting games still have quite a significant life in that market, so I don't know what to expect. The fact that it employs 2D mechanics won't work against its popularity in Japan either. Just look at what Playmore is doing--if there was no market for high end 2D arcade games, we wouldn't get to see wonderful stuff like KOFXII either.

I personally find that whatever arcades are left are flooded with DDRs and light gun games (they cost the most and draw the most money to play).

It's not just a matter of costing more, it's what people want to play. But there are a few really popular arcades in the US, where you'll see dedicated gamers still cramming around Street Fighter cabinets trying to establish themselves as dominant players. I think this is probably a more common sight in Japan than it is in the USA, but good arcades do still exist, they're just few and far between.

If you're ever in NYC you should check out Chinatown Fair. It's small, it's not particularly impressive (it's basically a hole in the wall) as a venue, but what space they do have is filled wall-to-wall with games that are pretty well maintained and they draw a huge crowd daily. You're also more likely to get owned there than you are playing your friends.
