Activision releases the first three images of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, via Sony America since the screens are from the PS3 version. Let's say it could use some more work.

Looks fine to me. ID's engine isn't all that great anymore, but its smooth, which I like. I'm not talking about the flat textures, but the decent AA and good framerate. And this looks much better in terms of style and art.

No, that looks terrible. There's no AA, and frankly it looks like the game does on low settings for the most part on PC. That is one fugly port.. and it's going to flop hard on PS360 anyway. Class heavy shooters have not found their niche on consoles yet, and while this game has a pretty healthy community on the PC, it's not as widely loved as games like Battlefield or even Team Fortress.

This game won't have a very active community on consoles. People are going to stick to COD4 and Halo for the most part.

You've obviously not seen the PC version of this. These pictures are absolutely awful. What decent AA are you on about? It's simply not evident here. I can run it with 8xFSAA at 720p completely maxed out on my PC, with ease. The engine simply isn't that demanding, and these screens show just how poor the port is. Even Quake 4 looks better than this.

All i see is low res textures, low poly models, and more jaggies than a PS2 game.

looks mediocre, no better or worse then quake 4 on the 360. the engine just sucks now. as for the game, i lost interest around about the time cod4 came out...lol. the PC version didnt make quite the impact i thought it was going to, so if i want my objective based multiplayer fix, i'll play the propper game, wolfenstein : enemy territory. for this game it seems to be a case of too little too late.

Nah it's a good game KORNdog and it has a pretty lively community even if it's a bit smaller than some other games. I recently gave the game a second chance and I'm pretty pleasantly surprised with the experience really.. but it's just not going to fly on consoles especially when it suffers from a bad case of portitis.

My favorite ETQW map is a level called Slipgate (which is actually pictured in screenshot with the Strogg walker). Half of the level takes place in Africa, where the Strogg are tasked with defending a slipgate from the EDF. Once the EDF successfully hack the slipgate and are able to move their giant APC through the portal, the action moves to a dark and snowy Antarctica. The variety of objectives that players have to complete in this game is what makes it unique and interesting.. it's a pretty dynamic game in that sense.

FYI, the PC version looks much better than this. The engine in its upgraded for isn't going to turn any heads in the same manner than many other FPS might, but it's still pretty capable. COD4's engine still contains a bit of Q3 code as it is :)

Some of the levels are also pretty massive, which is pretty impressive considering this engines heritage. Wolf:ET does have a somewhat bigger audience still though, but this is a different game, and that's a good thing. I think the majority of people who were instantly turned off by the game mostly hated the infantry combat because it's so damn arcadey, but it does have Quake in the name after all.

Yikes what a terrible job these guys are doing. The PS3 is far more capable than what is being showcased here.

AGREED !!. The power is there and yet these devs STILL insist on releasing this kind of quality on us all. The ps3 and 360 have an extreme amount of power left yet and games like GT-Prologue prove that consoles CAN and ARE doing things that most top-end pc`s can do. I have yet to see a racing game on a pc that looks as good as GT-Prologue too.

Looks last gen, which is to be expected since it uses a modified Doom III engine (IdTech 4?) which is a last gen engine that ran on the original Xbox. Ugly, very ugly.

One more time: The game looks much better than these screenshots on PC. But then again, Doom 3, Quake 4, and Prey all look much better running at their highest specs than the screenshots featured here. This is a shitty looking port.

One of the most popular xbl games of all time was a class-based shooter - Return to Castle Wolfenstein

But in the past few years there really haven't been any good ones :(

Well, yeah, on the PC. But I'm not talking about the PC version here.

Looks like DirectX7 or something like that. I'd really expect a hell of a lot more from the quake franchise as it's been running for YEARS!

I dunno, doesn't look too dissimilar to the pictures and videos of the PC version I saw, and I thought it was a pretty ugly game on PC. The engine is NOT made for wide open spaces, and the engine doesn't work to well on Xbox 360 at least either (based on the Prey and Quake 4 ports which were pretty bad as well). It's really a matter of shadow volume tech, which are fillrate dependent.

Still, the way games sell on consoles these days I wouldn't be surprised if the game sold ~750k, even Turok sold 500k and that game was gutter shit.

As far as id goes, I look forward to their next engine and Rage, because it'll be the first time id is really focusing on the console side, so it'll be cool to see what they can do.

Isn't COD4 based partly on classes? Along with many games recently? Lots of FPS games in multiplayer offer classes, isn't team fortress based on classes also?

Am I missing something, cause I see a lot of class based games around, just cause they aren't heavily into it doesn't mean they are aren't tainted by it, which they are.

COD4 is very loosely based on classes.. I wouldn't call COD4 a class heavy shooter by a long shot though. There's a heavy amount of dependency on teamwork and other classes which you won't find in COD4 TDM (which is a wildly popular playlist), and you'd never see ETQW FFA, because it simply wouldn't work.

TF2 is pretty simple in its approach to classes, and it's community is pretty dead on the PS360 compared to its healthy PC community. BF:MC/BC has simplified classes compared to its PC brothers by consolidating kits, etc. There are class based shooters on the 360 but none of them are particularly popular compared to the likes of Call of Duty or Halo, and no class based shooter is going to compete with big PS360 titles any time soon.

No really, it looks way better than this. I can achieve these graphics w/ ETQW and a 6800GT. This game handles massive environments very well too.. surprisingly well even. The levels are gigantic, BF2 gigantic if not bigger.

I would rather play wolfenstein: enemy territory again on my old PC than looking at such bad graphics on my 360.

But does the 360 version look like this or different?
