Xbox 360

The Last Remnant has been released today in all countries, a first for a Square-Enix RPG. Like many others I didn't expect much from this game, so it's a surprise for me to have enjoyed the first hour so much. And even technically, especially for a UE3 game from a Japanese developer, the game isn't too bad with so far a quite good framerate during the exploration parts. It sure slows down during fights, but since it's not realtime it's not such an issue. More videos tonight and tomorrow!
Update 3: Part 4 in now available. I'm done for the moment, but maybe some more videos showing more of the game will follow over the week-end.

Wow, angry much ? *sigh*

Anyway, Thanks Blim for the Video. totally unexpected :D Im actually impressed by the voice acting, very nice!!! and the combat system is looking very interesting too. I would have gotten this but Tomb Raider is arriving tomorrow so wont have time to play it anyway. Will get it next week though, should keep me busy until Prince of persia is released.

Looking forward to more videos ;)

A game developed by a B team from Square-Enix, using UE3 to boot? It was a recipe for a disaster. I'm happy it's not though :)

I'm an RPG fan and expected nothing from Last Remnant, or today's Square. Judging from what I read in OXM and GI, that's about what we're getting. At least the girl is cute.

Now if you want to talk GOOD RPG's, we've got Chrono Trigger and Persona 4 coming out soon. It's not all about HD graphics.

Yeah dude, that's only your OPINION. There's others that're willing to give this a try FYI.

And don't bring others down with your opinion. Because in their opinion. Your views would be invalid or as Van of Abyss would put it; "An empty argument".

Hm, I still find the slowdown distracting. Even if it isn't real time, it gets annoying as it is consistent and should have been ironed out. I mean, there are much better alternatives on the 360 if you need an RPG this winter, Tales of Vesperia being one of them.

It is the framerate. It takes severe hits during the battle system; it gets alleviated somewhat if you install it through NXE, but not by much. It is something that shouldn't have gotten through QA, especially since it consistently happens.

It's an alternative if you like aRPGs I guess. I like turn based RPGs much more than realtime ones, so I don't have much choice.

I dunno, still no real reviews of the game and its out already, that is NOT a good sign in anyones books. Framerate looks horrific in battle and the colour scheme is very dried out and flat...typical for a UE3 game tbh.
Some of the exploration stuff doesnt work, the walking / strafe looks horrible and totally doesnt fit any jrpg, not when the movement has been so clinically solid in all of the past square games.
Also, whats with the whole walking on water thing? Doesn't seem to be much interaction there and if they cant even do basic water right it doesnt bode well for whatever other shortcuts/laziness there is.
I so want to be proven wrong, im dying for something to spend my money on (i have a card for a game store that needs used up soon) and was hoping this would be it.

That's true; every other RPG on the 360 is pretty much real-time save for Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon, but I bet you already have those.

Clicks video 1, watches for 4min, no gameplay, just cutscenes..
Clicks on video 2, watches for 4min, no gameplay..
Clicks on video 3, watches for 4min, WOOH gameplay! Meh....

Now please dont call me a Halo-boy, i just like some actual gameplay in my rpg games. :)
This game looks like a big "meh" in my book.

Baleur, you can find gameplay videos all over the internet.

And as with most JRPGs, you're lucky if you get some action in the first 30 minutes.

I had high hopes for this one and still have (my order is on its way it will need another 5 days to reach me...).
Yea framerate is really bad in the fights but I see it the same way as blim, its turn base so it does not affect gameplay.
I greatly enjoyed ME and thats real time with horrible framerate during fights :)
I'm looking forward to it especially since my XBox just crashed the Mirror's Edge DVD and I got nothing to play =(

I have played the game for 5-6 hours, and well... The major problems I see... (I´m playing with the game installed on hard drive):
-The texture loading.
-Some framerate issues, mostly in combat.
-The camera and run animatons of the main character when you control him...
-The Soundtrack... some decent track but in general...MEH. Music in Infinite Undiscovery was better (and It wasen´t the best Soundtrack from Sakuraba)

In other hand, there´s some good points:
-Cut scenes are very well done, and nice facial animations.
-Voice acting It´s not bad at all.
-Graphics are good with some nice (tipical Unreal 3) textures in some parts, and character models are well done too.
-But one of the most important things in an rpg, the combat sistem. I like very much, I must say it (Even with the framerate issues). I have to say too that I prefer turn based combat than real time battle, I loved Lost Odyssey combat and I´m enjoying combats in The Last Remmant.

I think It´s a game of 7.8 or 8 (by now), but I vave not finished the game, so I can´t do a final review.

Yeah SEBASRD24...
It's a very good rpg... but...
Textures loadings are terrible =( Everywhere in the game.. in combat.. out combat.. cut scenes..
Still a good game..

Yes ANJIRO, maybe It´s a good game and nothing more. I enjoying the combat system and the story... well, It´s not bad at all but nothing deep or special. But as you say, there are texture loading everywhere , even playing from the Hard Drive... The optimization is quite bad, but like Blim says, from a B team from S-E, the game It´s not bad at all.
