The lack of RAM of this machine is really starting to show; some textures are so flat and plain it hurts.
We have seen muddy textures come and go over the months of development.
And this game still has 9+ months of development left.
Looking at screenshots all I feel is: This game was/ is and always will be the most Epic thing ever.
the kratos character model is by far the most impressive i've seen in a game, his poly count and detail is through the roof, he actually stands out from the background most of the time becasue he is so detailed.
It's called "optimisation" and "progress" Orange.

I'm just commenting on what I see. Whether they will improve (many devs throw in the 'real' things late on, I know) or remain 'optimized' as you say, and flat as I'd put it, remains to be seen.
@nepton: yes, played it. Guerilla actually did some pretty nifty tricks with the scene rendering, there are some papers on the net written by their principal coders, look them up if you're interested (masteratt, you should - maybe you'd actually learn the meaning of 'optimization'). I'm not saying nothing more can be done with the PS3, just that it's going to be damn hard. Blu-ray space isn't everything my friends.

uncharted looks better than killzone 2, IMO
Graphically, this game reminds me of Too Human which really isnt a good thing.
wow...some of the comments here have left me scratching my head...in motion this was EASILY one of the best looking games at e3...
to the guy with an ME avatar: GoW 3 definitely has some of the best character modelling, up there with ME actually, which I have played on pc with highest settings...
really, its seems like hate bandwaggons pick up here once in a while
the kratos character model is by far the most impressive i've seen in a game, his poly count and detail is through the roof, he actually stands out from the background most of the time becasue he is so detailed. as for the rest of the game, it's looking great imo, the fact it's going to be 1080p with an unlocked 60FPS is also freaking amazing....not that can take advantage of such resolutions with my 720p TV, but still, huge achievement on their part, a game that looks this good at 1080p. o_O
Overall I think it looks "ok" and nothing else. The environments are empty as hell, some of the textures are downright sorry, and great part of the shadowing is horrible.
This image looks plain as hell, I don't know how to describe it.

And so does this one:

And pretty much them all. I assume I don't have to say why, now do I?

I don't see anything completely out of the ordinary with the character model of Kratos, much less the whole game.

wait, people actually think this will be 1080p native? yeah, right... a dev can say any game is 1080p if they want thanks to scaling, doesnt make it native

and yes, i bought a 720p TV prior to 1080p sets. and it's 32", no need for 1080p at that size screen. its wasted. and i certainly dont need a TV bigger then 32".
EDIT: the fact this games gets such heated debate concerning it's visuals pretty much proves it's doing something right, killzone 2 was the same. some people just dont seem to be able to appreciate an awesome looking game....when it's exclusive...lol

becasue you hate everything? lol

Just checking, lol! I don't know why you wouldn't want a TV bigger than 32inch though, unless you haven't got space for bigger? I would have got a 50inch instead of 40inch (haven't got space for bigger, although I would still "want" bigger) if I could have afforded it at the time.
As far as the graphics are concerned it seems that people have been spoiled somewhat by the likes of Killzone 2, Uncharted 2 and Crysis and now as a result have become major graphics whores. Everything gets compared to these games and if the visuals don't make the grade the game it's immediately put down. What the hell happened to gameplay being more important than graphics, besides this really doesn't look that bad, particularly when you consider the scale and number of enemies on screen.
I bet if this was some kind of unknown franchise, people wouldn't be half as impressed with the visuals as they are now that it's the 'holy' GOW.
Oh well, carry on...
I'm with you on this one Lebato, I haven't a clue why people are praising this game's visuals. It looks alright, that's it.

i prefer the overall aesthetic and balance of a room over gigantasm TV screens. it isnt a case of room, it's a case of the room itself not working with a bigger screen, 32" is perfect.
