First 10 minutes Xbox 360 PS3

After the disappointing Ninja Gaiden 3, many fans of Team Ninja started to be seriously worried about Dead or Alive 5, crying over Tomonobu Itagaki's departure. Needless to say that the release of the game this week came as a relief when players realized that it was a good fighting game. Now, we'd love to hear what you guys think about it. Before watching our 60 fps videos of the 360 version, please keep in mind that we are not very familiar with the genre and that we're doing our best.

They look better than DOA4s models, lol

Well, I love the game. Happy Shimboru worked so hard with the community to fine tune the gameplay mechanics for DOA5. DOA4 can go home :O

DOA4 still my favourite beat'em up..and i'll no doubt pick up this. I've heard they've kinda messed up the story mode though? theres no dedicated story for each character like the previous ones...and no main boss?

i dont like the game! gameplay is good as ever, the charas look superb. but the backgrounds totally suck! poor textures, no details, most are complete boring as hell. the music is annoying (menu) or boring. i dont like the story mode..... not a complete disaster like ninja gaiden 3, but nothing really worth playing if you played all the other doa games!

Other than some incremental graphical improvements each iteration this is the same shit as before. Nothing real exciting or new. How about a new IP? For fucks sake we all know the fighting genre needs a new IP. Bring it on already, SOMEONE

No way. The story mode is over 2 hours long and you do play as nearly every character in their own chapter, you can see Kokoro and Mila's chapter above. There is a "final boss"

I hate the new story mode. It is a beat em up, it doesnt need any story and truth to be told, no story would be better than the crap they came up with.
I'd rather have some neat CGI endings than those stupid and meaningless cutscenes.

Characters and lighting look nice, but the environment still looks like on Xbox. Low-res flat textures all over the place and in fact, water looks worse than in DoA3.
When I compare the environments of DoA with other upcoming games I really ask myself what they waste all of the hardware-resources on.
Prerendred sweat and boob physics? maybe...

And why the hell did they cut Tag-Team-Survival, my favourite game mode?

Me fail english that's unpossible

Also to everyone bitching about the story at all. IT'S A FIGHTING GAME
The fact it's relatively good should be enough as it is. They took the time to animate scenes and make at least some effort at a story. Rather than having crappy still images with text.

Also this is less of a beat em up this time around. They actually took the time and made it more competitive based too. So it's not just the same game, and it should be more of what people are looking for.
The way they balanced both is great.

Today was the day of Munich Agreement. I hope that Great Britain, France and Italy will never again be such pussies like in September 30th 1938. *warning from Czech Republic*

They seriously dropped the ball on the IQ.

DOA was famous for the super-polished IQ. 720p, insane ammounts of AA, gorgeous, super-high-res textures, colorful backgrounds. You could zoom in in anything and it would be smooth as a baby's bottom.

DOA 5 traded that for more polygons on character's faces. Backgrounds are now brown, ugly and straight out of PS2, with N64 textures everywhere. Characters are covered in jaggies everywhere. The game also drops resolution to keep the framerate. All so they could make the faces more realistic like Tekken or Virtua Fighter.

Definetly NOT worth it. I'm rather have amazing IQ all the time, everywhere (like DOA4) than having some nice close-ups during the barely-seen winposes and intros.

Gameplay was severely balanced. Hit stuns into counters was something that everyone who played the game seriously wanted touched upon, and they delievered in spades. Anyone saying it is "the same" as before can't play fighting games, period.

Thinking the faces have that much control over the environments seems silly to me.

I'd attribute it to the fact that the environments have a new level of interaction to them than in previous titles. Not only are there tiers but the entire stage shifts, animates, and creates "danger zones". I would assume that is the real reason why it may look worse.

Worse? than what? its the best looking DOA game and the best looking game team ninja has ever made. Just because some of the textures here and there in the environment arent great doesnt negate the fact they are expansive, with lots of interactive objects and particle effects. there is only so much you can do on 7 year old hardware at 60fps. The character models alone are really good and take up resources.

People say this about every fighter. Most of them don't actually play fighters. Hell.. a lot of people make this hair-brained claim about every shooter too. I guess it's just a lazy, global criticism of a sequel.

Tell that to IGN, who panned SCV (possibly my GOTY) for its single player content.
