Battlefield 4 - "Netcode" Update Details
I think it's a weird solution, since it leaves a lot of interactions on the table that may not be improved, but it's interesting none the less. I'm not sure how fair it really is to compare Battlefield and Counter Strike's respective tick-rates. One is probably exchanging a lot more information (overall) than the other.
They really are fighting an uphill battle now though. It will never be "fixed" until it's perfect.. which probably isn't even possible.

Another funny thing: "Hardline is too samey, but I want Bad Company 3!"
uhhhh... k. Let's take it back to modern warfare. Good one!
First impression: It's fun! BF3 movement + M16A3 + tug of war game mode + levelution.
More later.
And turn on the high freq. netcode too.
I hope these features make it into BFH.

I'm enjoying BF4 again, but I'm also going to continue to play the BFH beta. It's definitely a bit "light," but I find the tug-of-war aspect of Blood Money fairly entertaining. Gotta get dat paper. I look forward to seeing more maps. It's a silly game.
On the gameplay side, I'm enjoying some of their revisions to the basic formula too. The progression system appears to allow players to jump in a little more quickly than BF4. They didn't pad the kit equipment with redundancies like BF4. They also let you take health and ammo from teammates. That's a welcome innovation. There are some kinks to the gunplay and movement that I'd like to see ironed out, but there is some goodness here too. Transitions seem intentionally quicker.
The only thing I flatly dislike is the self revive tool. It's a bad piece of design, although I get a laugh when you get to punish it.
Oh.. and as stated they need BF4's netcode improvements to be implemented.
In short: BFH is a fun, if not watered down Battlefield game with new toys, new gameplay and two decent game modes.
This is a small but quick update, as we need to get changes in to the build slated for Dragon’s Teeth release. We hope you enjoy the changes we have made – and can’t wait to get your continued feedback on these tweaks.
In this update we also enable all the Dragon’s Teeth weapons, and continue to run the servers with all unlocks enabled – so please focus on testing these as well!
UPDATE CHANGES
These are the actual changes made to this build:
Shield bash damage, distance & spread tuned – no more one-hit kills.
Shield incoming projectile damage improved. Single tank AP-round now kills.
All Dragon’s Teeth weapons available for testing.
There are finally US EAST CTE servers too.
Impressions:
-Looks pretty fucking bad. Concessions to get 60fps on consoles I guess?
-Shooting feels a bit off for some reason, don't think it plays as well as BF4.
-Map wasn't anything special or memorable
-Feels dumbed down, like some kind of $20 DLC for BF4 or mod or something.

I've played quite a bit of it, and I'm not going to purchase the game full price, but I'll probably wind up playing it. When it's cheap and I'm bored. I actually enjoy that it doesn't play like BF4. It might be a fun diversion but it's not going to have an impact on the "numbered" franchise.
I actually think Blood Money is great fun with good teams. There's a tug-of-war thing there that's a damn hoot.
Pacing is good fun. I think it'll be an okay game. Visceral could turn into a solid FPS studio too. Just knowing that these guys made End Game gives me some confidence in them. Those are some of the best BF3 maps.
BF4 is definitely a better game despite itself.
It's got a weird vibe and it's definitely more arcadey. Which I don't know if I like since BF isn't hyper realistic to begin with
It definitely just feels like a MOD and shouldn't be a full price like I've seen others saying
Even as a shitty branched beta with horrible legacy netcode, it's still mode polished than most mods.
I'm probably not buying it though. I got bored of it pretty quickly and went back to BF4. I may pick it up for an arcade "fix," but there's so many games out there right now that it'll be hard pressed to compete for my time. I agree that $60 is a lot for this game anyway.
I've seen a lot of interesting discussion regarding Hardline's name. I've heard people suggest they'd like it more if it weren't called "Battlefield." That sounds like semantics to me and seems pretty silly.
And fwiw.. it's not DICE's game. If you compare it to EA's extended FPS experience, it's already outperforming what Danger Close attempted to do with Medal of Honor. Not that the bar is set very high there.

But.. since we're doing this.. can you articulate what made Bad Company 2 good? Was it destruction? Was it the level design? My favorite BC2 map is Panama Canal, and it has (far) less destruction than your average BF4 map. Every single structure in BF4 that's as small as your average BC2 house is completely destructible. Destruction is still a fairly large mechanic. Was it the kit design? I know I loved having an ammo crate on my noob tube. Or how about the gunplay? Who doesn't love tapping out headshots with the M60 from across the map?
Was it... rush? Because omg rush sucks.
Panama Canal was good though. It's probably somewhere on my list of favorite Battlefield maps, but it's the only one that I find particularly memorable from that set. Battlefield 3 has 29 maps and there are quite a few very good ones. Abd Battlefield 4 has better level design than vanilla BF3.
I wish Battlefield 3 had recieved the dev. support that BF4 is. In a weird way, the damage they've done to the brand could actually help it improve. Had they stayed the course and been successful... I'm not sure what would have happened.
I've said it before, I'll say it again: the longest flush in franchise history. But Bad Company 2 filled the fucking bowl. To me, Battlefield is more of a rollercoaster. But in hindsight, I think BC2 is awful. I think it's a-okay to love Bad Company and hate Battlefield, but I would love to see people articulate it better. "Dur! Destruction!" isn't good enough.
I don't even really want to get into vehicles. Bad Company tanking was idiotic.
By the way... we're currently testing changes to rush in CTE. Dice wants to improve rush in BF4.
I don't know why.

Gotta be rush/console players... right?
It's such a tragedy that BF2 is dead :(
the fact DICE doesn't get it isn't because people can't give them straight answers I don't think.
It's more to do with their owner making them release titles too quickly, which is something they'd never confess for obvious reasons
With this thinking I'd start off by simply looking at how each game has released. Since BC2 all major Battlefield games have released with broken net code for starters. In fact I still have a friend telling me that BF4 is in fact great, what BF3 should have been but "they just need to fix it".
Sounds great I'll go right out and buy it!
Hardline while it's only in test phases, I totally expect to be another shining example of an unfinished release. Something that will get skipped over in favor of supporting 4 or moving right on to 5.
You mention the M60 in BC2 and that's probably the only thing that was ever a major flaw they overlooked.
The maps are superior and so is the gun play because there is simplicity there and a pure enjoyment that's become muddied in the other line.
This is something common in most FPS I think. Sometimes the core is lost because you've stacked too much on top of what made it fun to begin with.
I think the maps in the main franchise are looking outward too much and not recognizing what made for great designs in Battlefield's past.
They obviously recognized that in 3 eventually after everyone shit themselves over all the tight corridor maps, which felt out of character. 4 recognizes it too thankfully.
Destruction IS worse in 3 and 4 because purists like yourself hated that shit.
3 had little to nothing and 4 major "improvement" is scripted events...
