Half the problem is loads of people will instantly veto anything that's remotely interesting or different. I thought we had the team slayer list to get rid of that element :S

Since 6368 Daysi personally still preffer GeOW... but thats just me. I feel most games dont punish you enough for dying, and geow does a good job of balancing dying vs waiting for round to end.

I actually like the AR too, combined with melee, it's what makes Halo 3 really stand out as being different than Halo 2. Now, on the other hand, I do feel like there is a bit of host/anti-lag advantage that comes into play when using melee that makes it unfair in certain circumstances, but the concept is quite sound. Honestly, the balance between melee, nades, and firefights is what makes Halo 3 different than every other run and gun shooter. Take that away, and it's not nearly as special.
Since 6313 DaysMost of the kills did in MM are with the melee. And I don't find it ballanced in any way. It's just way too powerfull. For me Halo 2 was perfect in that aspect. The weaponballance itself was rediculous but the ballance between granades, melee and weapons in general was very good.
Maulers are just for camping. You wouldn't run around with one and rack up kills, since noone would fall for it and back away emediately when he sees one. People tend to stay in certain areas with it and camp since it's a very effective way of getting easy one hit kills if the oponent dosn't expect it.
As soon as my firends heard of BR starts they got back to playing Halo 3 again. We had some intense matches with BR starts, easily the best I've had in Halo 3 so far. BRs need other tactics and more teamplay, as well as constant vigilnes on the whole map and not just a horizon with the radia of your AR.
