This is one of the few developers honest and innovative enough to gain my respect. That said, I'm not sure exactly what I just saw, but the physics were crazy. I can't wait to see how they apply this concept to a game.

I'm glad that he didn't quit the gaming business after Katamari Damacy so we can continue in his unique ideas.

This just looks weird. This has to be a tech demo or something, right? If the concept is developed further that would be cool, but i didn't understand what the goal of the "game" was from watching the movie.

yeah that's what i thought, i was staring at the video and simply thinking, how is this going to be a great game? sure the physics were great and they looked cute..

I think environment would come into play alot to fully incorporate the use of these creatures, until then..i don't see how this is as amazing as some of you guys are saying it is.

I feel the same way. Jesus, my affection for this type of offbeat ideas is almost legendary, but I too question how this is supposed to make a good game. An idea isn't good just because it's weird.

I was excited when I heard the announcement, but this is embarassingly early and the presentation totally lacked focus.

I won't get carried away and say Katamari Damashi was much of an actual GAME, nor that it was particularly GOOD as a game, but it had heart, and it said something very moving, and it all felt coherent.

This does little to imply anything to that effect. We'll see what happens.

Don't be so harsh this was more of a proof of concept than an a demo of an actual game, it does have a really unique idea let's just hope they can do something good with it. ;)

Yea but it makes you wonder why it was shown as it seems very pointless at the moment.

It could turn out to be something quite good, but im sure it won't resemble much of what is being shown here, other than the graphics.

I recall seeing some footage of LittleBigPlanet's "proof of concept" that Media Molecule shopped around to various publishers before Sony bought into it. It was basically 2-D stick figures tugging at blocks. Now look how that game's turned out...

(then again it's a Sony game, so inevitably someone here will chime in and say it's no good)

I was at the presentation today, too and this followed the keynote speech Keita Takahashi gave. Perhaps the keynote helped in the understanding of the demo ;)

I think Takahashi-san gave a clue that some of the inspiration for this came from walking a dog with one of those extending leads and other 'simple' things. Nobi-nobi translated as 'at ease with' something or 'delayed' so the laid back (yes, some might say aimless!) feel to the demo was somewhat fitting.

If someone had described the early proof-of-concepts for Katamari then I think many would have been non-plussed too. I think this needs some time to see if it will grow - no doubt there was a lot Takahashi wasn't saying!

BtW: Thanks Jonsend for the video - I was able to show my partner why she was hanging around in Nottingham with the kids as the keynote over ran quite a bit. Not sure she was entirely convinced by the video though!

As said, it's a tech-demo and proof of concept thing... not gameplay of the actual game!
Many games would be sooo boring if you took out all textures and graphics, all sound, etc.
This seems to just show how you will control the 'character', the physics, and that it will have some kind of multiplayer. Now we just hope that the "goal" of the actual game turns out to be as interesting as the concept for gameplay.

The only game type i can think of with implementing this type ofgameplay would be a game where you have to round up all the animals in a sort of pen. You can gather them by pushing them as shown before, and eat them to transfer them somewhere else. The character is kind of like a balance system, because if you want to boost yourself somewhere you have to stretch out, but by stretching out it will take longer time to transfer an animal through ingestion. Also, you can eat something far away while keeping your butt close to the pen, to do multiple eatings at atime, but if something is closer to the pen, it will take longer because your body is longer. I don't know, i'm just throwing this idea out there, it could be entirely different, but what i'm saying makes alot of sense to me. Also for the multiplayer aspect, it would be each person has his own pen, and must gather as many animals as they can, bigger animals being worth more points. Hm......if they don't make that game, maybe I should, lol
The only thing i don't understand is why a third dimension is needed(jumping).....oh maybe to eat flying animals,.....or just jumping over obstacles.

While we float through a sea of first person shooters and Devil May Cry derivatives, creativity and originality are my most highly valued aspects of gaming these days. It's for that reason that I am completely excited about this game and I am glad that due to the success of Katamari, Takahashi can come up with amazing stuff like this and publishers will just line up to get it to us.

Hope you all enjoy your Nobi Nobi Boy, once it comes out.

Little Big Planet looks pretty awesome. Katamari... I played the demo all of 10 minutes... and that pretty much did it for me as far as the novelty of that game is. XBLArcade title 800 pts at most. This game... ??? what is it showing as far as gameplay again... maybe I don't quite get it. Japanese title... granted, I should assume it is beyond me and move on.

I'll take my originality, and fun of Portal any day over this... whatever it is.

its a concept IDEA....not a final game. why dont people understand this. and portal isnt original. narbacular drop did it first.

end of the day, katamari was awesome, both in the idea and excecution. and im sure this will be the same, once its actually a game of course... not a concept video.
