With the new-year upon us, it’s time we hunt out those games that are currently hiding under the radar of most, games keeping their considerable charms hidden from the world until their release draws nearer.

A game like The Precursors from Deep Shadows, for example, which looks like it could be one of the most ambitious hybrid titles ever.

Featuring FPS, RPG and space combat elements all weaved together to present an open and free world – sorry, did we say world, we mean universe – where players can become entirely immersed in a genuinely deep and involving play mechanic, The Precursors puts players in the role of a young pilot, who’s tasked with uncovering secrets and solving the problems that go with them as he travels the galaxy visiting planets and getting into scrapes.

The game looks massively ambitious and will undoubtedly deliver a seemingly never-ending array of creatures, characters, weapons, vehicles, cultures and worlds. Expect to be in desert planets one minute and snow-covered ice planets the next and expect to bump into all manner of alien beings. In theory The Precursors could present players with a sense of openness and infinity not felt since we all first booted up Elite on our BBCs and Spectrums and allowed ourselves to waste away hours travelling through the seemingly open universe presented therein.

Sounds interesting doesn’t it? And with so many details left to uncover, we can’t help wondering where the potential of this game will end. Imagine the sort of universe-extending downloadable content packs it could provide, adding planet types and species, or better yet, imagine a multiplayer mode where you can visit and/or destroy your friends’ bases…

haha I do like some of the stuff I saw in there though. I think the physics in the game looks pretty sound. I'm tired of seeing all this floaty physics crap maybe because it might be difficult to pull off physics on in order cpus? Not sure.

Also liked the look of some of the alien type weapons. Some of them looked cool or maybe I should say the graphics looked pretty nice in some of that :D

I don't think the stuff at 52 seconds looked that bad.

Halo 3 will look much better than people here expect I'm sure :)
