Ok, I missed this in the stream of the conference and it'd get lost in the thread amongst the FFXIII stuff;-

* Play from hard drive. Copy your games from the game disc and play directly from the hard drive. Not only will the drive not spin, but load times are quicker, as well. Of course, you will still need the disc in the tray to prove you own the game.

* Access Xbox LIVE Marketplace on the Web. Browse and purchase Marketplace content whenever you want from Xbox.com and it downloads automatically to your console. Purchase that new map, television episode, the latest Xbox LIVE Arcade game or set up a movie to watch when you get home from work.

* Dashboard built into the new Xbox Guide. For everyone who loves the blades interface, it’s not going away; they are now built directly in to the new Xbox guide. Every feature and option is available right from the guide. You can even access your full games library at all times. No matter where you are (in dash or in game), immediately call up your games played list and directly launch a game.

* LIVE Party system. Create a party of up to eight friends, and stay with them from one game to another, or watch a Netflix movie together, or share a slideshow of your personal photos. It works with all Xbox 360 titles, not just upcoming games. LIVE Party allows up to eight people to chat in the dashboard, so you can meet up before playing.

* Xbox LIVE Primetime. This whole new category of games is going to give you more reasons to get online with your friends. Games will support everything you’d expect, like Achievements and leader boards, but many of these games will include real prizes. You can invite your friends, and even set a reminder for an upcoming show. Each game is broadcast simultaneously, so everyone is answering the same questions. Many events will have a live host, calling the shots as they happen.

* Avatars. Your online identity started as a Gamertag - it then grew into a personalized Gamercard. Now, it has evolved even further into avatars. You can express your style, check out new outfits and share this with the community. Avatars will also be integrated into Xbox LIVE Arcade games, LIVE Party, as well as retail games.

* New display support. Because you asked for it, we are adding 16X10 over VGA or HDMI, and support for 1440x900 or 1680x1050.
Apparently more features will be announced in the run up to fall! Given that Sony stepped up with in-game XMB it's nice to see they haven't been standing still.

This and no more noise!
I can no finally play it at night with decent volume and not hearing the "jet engine", nice job MS.

But don't you need bigger HDD for that? if so, then I won't use it.

Of course you do, this is stupid. They have to cut HDD prices in half AT LEAST.

They need to cut down the price for me to get one, but I seriously doubt I will use this feature because most of my gaming is during the day were I can have high volume.

Time for me to transfer over everything to my 120gig drive. This and the Netflix partnership news just mean that the drive will get use from me.

Will all games support this install feature?
Will it fix texture pop-in issues at all?

Aside from the noise(which I don't even notice at all), is there a benefit to installing the game?

You must have really nice dvd drive then on your 360. Mine is some really horrible. I can even hear it spin and do stuff when I play with my headphones :/

I just play fairly loudly.

I don't find any of the games suffer from especially horrible loading times...certainly not long enough to warrant me spending however long installing the games.

I wonder how many people snickered whenever it was revealed that some PS3 games required installs before hand. Now people are uber excited to be able to do just that?

I don't get it.

It's optional. No one is forcing to install game if you don't want (at least not yet)...

Its optional like Isomac said, and I turn up the volume too when I play.

And this pisses all over Sony, with their recent update which puts the XMB in-game. I bet they're not feeling too good right now.

I know, but it seemed like a generally negative thing that people are now excited for. It being optional shouldn't matter.

If Group A laughed at Group B because they were forced to eat poop, why would Group A be excited about having the option to eat poop when they didn't have to do it to begin with?

I guess if the noise is really that big of a problem, then it makes some sense... I guess..

Plus the fact is the installs on the PS3 were just portions of the game, it still streamed from the disc aswell and hence still had loading/pop-in issues.

MGS4 has horrid installing, have to install anytime you change chapter so i cant show friends different parts of the game, they dont even give the option to install the whole thing, or all the required chapter files.

Maybe Poop B tastes better? I don't know. lol

Yea, noise was the problem, but newer 360s have quieter drives.

It's not the same thing. Some PS3 games have MANDATORY installs. i.e. you have to use the hard drive to play the game. It's not the worst thing in the world as every PS3 has a hard drive.

This is about keeping a digital copy of your games on your own hard drive to improve loading times, reduce the disk noise and the like. It's a nice feature for those who want to use it.

DVD drive in 360 isn't called for jet engine for nothing... I have one 360 from around the launch so its pretty bad. There is many different DVD drives on the 360 so some get luckier than others.

Yeah sure I play with volume on really load too when I can but still quieter moments are ruined with the WHOOOOOOOSSSS sound. heh

Some why my PGR3 is the worst it can be heard for other rooms easily too :S

I would still install for a bit smoother loading times even if I had quiet drive. I am used to install my games on PC anyway.

Yes.

It will fix/reduce any issues caused by slower DVD throughput speed, load times, texture pop-in in some cases.

Being able to install the WHOLE game, not just portions and play them?! Whats their to complain about? Its OPTIONAL(atleast at the moment) and not mandatory like already been said in this thread. Its a great feature and a deal as far as im concerned.

Good christ...I'm not complaining about it. I was merely wondering why spending god knows how long to install a game to improve load times(that already aren't that bad) was constantly considered a negative on the PS3, and now because we have the option of doing it if we want, it's all of a sudden a positive thing? It being OPTIONAL is moot.

My dvd drive is loud, but I find it extremely easy to ignore; I literally have to try to notice it, so this aspect doesn't matter to me.

I'm mostly interested in if texture pop-in will be reduced. RAZ seems to think so, and if this is the case, I may just give Mass Effect another playthrough.

Well thats fine and all, but some people aren't so easily accepting of the fact that its pretty damn noisey.

I do see your point that its a bit hypocritical, but thats just the way it is, besides there is a huge difference between having an option and being made to do something.
