So there hasn't been a thread for BF:BC2 yet, but surely *some* people are interested. After the announcement of the release date my interest dropped a bit but with some new information I found on GAF it peaked again.

So now we can customize our kits, which sounds freaking fantastic. The thing with BC1 I didn't like was that not every kit was equally useful. I ended up not using some of the equipment at all. That's why in the end I ended up sticking to the medic class. I just hope they have the L85A1 in there again. It looked dope in BF2 and was easily my favourite weapon.

Also the helicopter sounds sweet as well. Loved flying helis in BC1, never got into it in BF2 due to controls (but always wanted to), now I just need another regular squad mate to be the gunner. :)

Oh and here is something BF2 vets will like:
Best of all, the game has done away with the global spotting system, so now you'll have to spot each enemy individually and even get close enough to see whether or not they're a friendly or an enemy.

That '4-player squad mode' feature sounds interesting...

I enjoyed BC1, but it was flawed in a whole number of ways. If DICE can build upon some of the nice things they added in 1943, we could have a very, very good game on our hands.

PC has made gains in multiple franchises these last couple of years, from the B team Battlefield game to the B team Call of Duty. Yay.

I hope the PC version supports larger squads. I may just get this.

Well Grift it seems they're partly heading back to what more hardcore BF fans want from the game (thus also releasing it on PC). Although they cut classes again, it seems like the ability to customize the kit more than makes up for it. I'm really excited for this game, especially after seeing the trailer and how you can now blow walls and make your own cover, that's brilliant. Actually I'm even more excited about it than I'm for MW2. I'm a happy gamer when those two titles are released.

This still aint BF3.

In BC1 every kit wasn't equal. It was pretty obvious certain kits could be exploited in certain situations within their maps. Also the recon grenade was too effective at shutting down attacking teams when defending.

BC2 is all I care about in the end this year.

Wow, the destruction is much improved. I mean it isn't quite Red Faction level but I don't think we'll see that until next-gen for a game of this type.

Have they added a prone stance to BC2? Does anyone know? I've heard as much.. but I sorta want a solid confirmation.

Alright Sulla, here is a discussion on the issue from DICE's viewpoint on a range of topics.

DICE feels that because the console versions of the game is at such a lower resolution (1280x720), compared to PC resolutions (as high as 2560x1600), that prone was breaking the fast paced action of the game and that it was too camper friendly. When DICE played with prone on consoles other players were nearly impossible to see while prone (until it was too late), and the matches often resulted in a camping festival between the defending team and the attacking team, complete with smores and campfire songs. The overall atmosphere felt slow, and the game wasn’t at its full fast-paced potential. When DICE played the matches with the prone turned off, it forced camping players to put more thought into their hiding spots, and it gave the attackers less of a disadvantage being able to see who was shooting at them and resulted in more fast paced gameplay. People like yourself can go on and on about how in real life prone is the most important battle stance in a firefight, but obviously this isn’t real life, and you should play ARMA2 or something if you really want it, or purchase the PC version .

Now, the reasons the PC platform are getting seemingly “better” features in the game are a result of DICE ignoring the PC user base for the past 3-4 years and this is a homage to the PC platform, and also because it’s a lot of things that PC users simply deserve. If you have played games on the PC for the last ten years you would know what I’m talking about, otherwise I won’t even try to explain... Also, k1ll8 saurav is completely correct about the difference of player’s between PC and consoles, and dedicated servers for PC’s are a must for any game like this on a PC platform, so don’t take it the wrong way. I don’t know DICE’s stance on clan support for the console version at this time, they have been back and forth on the topic and I don’t know why. If I find out I’ll let you know

Regarding player count on the pc…PC’s for obvious reason have much more powerful tech, thus allowing much more flexibility with things such as increased player count, so it would be flat out stupid to not take advantage of this and make the game more worthy of being on the PC instead of a direct port from a console version. You may say that this isn’t fair, but it really is and everything balances out (hey, we don’t get a slick Xbox LIVE interface and if I wanted that then I should play the xbox version). If you wanted a more powerful game, you should have bought a more powerful platform, plain and simple.

Prone- I don’t consider prone a real feature to get all excited about for the PC version, but I suppose people like you have proven me wrong. Regardless, as of right now prone is not going to be on the console version and I gave the reasons above.

Last but not least, the PC platform is usually expected to put up with a lot more “crap” compared to consoles. While consoles may get the game on a certain date, PC users typically have to wait much longer for the same game, but in turn, they get the game for a lower price because there are no licensing fees like consoles have, and typically they get a few more perks thrown in compared to consoles just for good measure. PC customers are a much tougher crowd then consoles are so we have to appeal to them in as many ways as possible, but why not? They deserve it after having a steady history of constantly getting the shaft. Also on a side note, If it wasn’t for the PC platform you wouldn’t be playing the game on consoles right now.

Anyway, regarding prone -because there is still plenty of dev time, there is a slim chance in can end up implemented in the game... but because of the reasons I stated above I want to emphasize that it is definitely a slim chance.
I found this great post in this thread: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/30/293857.p... (thanks to NeoGAF)

It's from the Battlefield community manager. He has 402's position at Dice, and here he's explaining why the PC version of Bad Company 2 is going to have more advanced features. It also answers my previous question. I'm officially excited about this game, despite being so hesitant and on the fence before. I didn't like Bad Company.. but they're address a lot of the issues I had with the first game, and promising to kick it up a notch for the PC port. I'm so there.

After everything IW is putting their PC fans through, this made me feel all warm and fuzzy. I'm commin' home DICE! Leave the lights on! Now announce BF3 and we're officially back in love.

Translation: Console gamers are tards and real men know how to play an FPS!

Btw, BFBC SP was pretty bad. Alas if it had been 4 player coop and more sandbox it would have rocked. Sad to hear we aren;t getting 4 player coop.... the game seems designed for such.

What's a SP? ;)

I kid.. a decent single player game can enhance a primarily MP shooter. UT3 taught me that. Even though it was just a series of bot matches with cinemas, it was actually pretty entertaining.

So basically, the console version is intentionally going to be inferior to the PC version? Sounds like DICE is doing an IW but with a bit of role reversal (and less of the false promises). By the by, the reason he gave for there being no prone feature in the console version is so lame.

But I'm probably not even going to get this, so it doesn't really matter to me.

We tried it, but it didn't work... is a lame reason? Suuure...

This whole situation is laced with a fuckton of irony. IW's forums are a riot. It's their console users acting like elitist punks, telling the PC users that they're just not skilled enough to play with them. I've actually seen someone say, and I quote, "Man up and play on a console." It's blissful ignorance, is what it is. They don't actually understand why no mods and no dedicated servers is a big deal.. because they don't have it, so why should we!? The thruth is that they should be just as pissed off as we are. Mods built this genre. Without mods no one would be playing TF2, CS, or Battlefield 2 (and it's spin-offs, arguably).. and without the PC we wouldn't even have Halo. Cutting the PC out of the FPS genre is bad for everyone.. except Activision I guess.

This thread on EA's forums is basically the same thing. Only this time, EA has it right, and console gamers are the ones bitching about it.

That's right... zerk16 is right. Plus, he said it's still possible that they would consider adding prone in to the 360 version too, if it proves important enough to their users. That's a whole lot better than Infinity Ward's reaction; they basically just called their fans nerds, said they weren't real fans, and were just shills for the server hosting market!
