Inscrit depuis 7465 JoursSee, this is what I don't get. I understand part of a review does encompass how a game relates to other games in the genre outside the platform.
But, in general, the PC and consoles are different markets by virtue of cost, user base size, inputs, etc
RTS is basically a completely unknown on consoles. The game is supposedly very good on the 360, so basically you have a really good game in a TOTALLY empty genre. Not that 8.2 is bad mind you, but I don't think it is reflective of the "gap" it fills in the portfolio or the quality is brings to gamers. RTS fans are far and wide and their needs have been neglected on the consoles--it is a different breed of game with more tactical and strategical planning required which appeals to gamers who are not "quick twitch fiber" so to speak.
Put another way IGN feels Tony Hawk's AW, Far Cry (an average FPS), Perfect Dark (a lot of bug complaints and another average FPS), Fifa, and Burnet (last gen port), are all better games on the platform and relative to the competiting titles in the genre on the platform.
This is why ratings make no sense most of the time.
The "tilt" on this game should be high. Forget graphics, forget sound, forget everything but this: It is a well executed game in a (a) important genre that has deep gameplay and (b) is executed well and (c) has no equal in the console space last gen or this gen and (d) it is not a port!
It may only be an average PC RTS (a deep, competitive genre that has been extremely refined over the years where a title needs to be extremely innovative and aggressive with excellent execution to stand out) but in the console space I don't understand the review, especially against Tony Hawks and Far Cry!
Basically repetitive, beaten to death, run of the mill average action console games get better reviews than something actually new and well done... but then again if you love those type of games... meh, ratings don't make much sense. BAH!
Now that I retired I can play more MGS games.
