V-sync's mileage varies from game to game. I don't use it in most multiplayer games personally... although v-sync + triple buffering is pretty okay.

Personally I think AA and v-sync are a waste of time.

A higher resolution gives you a way better picture for potentially less of a performance loss (not to mention AA's quality often depends on the implementation).

V-sync is a catch-22, if you have a good PC, v-sync is pointless since you wont get tearing anyway (so you may as well leave it off to get maximum FPS), but if you have a bad PC, v-sync just makes it run worse. Pretty much redundant either way IMO.

Really looking forward to this, DICE are mad kents. I'm upgrading all my hardware for the occasion
As plumb said, I constantly have to enable vsync as my new gaming pc is too powerful without it enabled. tearing but more annoying are the high gpu fan noise as it's pushing more fps that my IPS panel can possibly display. for example borderlands. and what's worse is that I had to hack cfg files to enable it.

Yeah plumb's right, I was using a big-ass CRT until recently, and tbh I haven't had much time for gaming so maybe I'm living in the past. But I never had any problems with tearing on PC, to me vsync was just the thing that makes my framerate worse.

That still doesn't explain how aiming with thumb sticks feels more natural. A pointer is more fluid, responsive, and natural... and it doesn't matter if the game is "more realistic."

But if that's your preference more power to you.
Sorry man, I was kinda talking about my preference to BF over something like COD while trying to explain my preference for the console experience. There are certainly times when I love my mouse look( Crysis, Unreal Tourney). It's not that I think the sticks are "better", it's just that the mouse look isn't a make or break thing, and can sometimes remove some of the realistic feel for me. Once you get used to it, the stick can be accurate enough, and I definitely prefer the anologue stick for movement...

I'm plenty adjusted to analog stick aiming and movement (I've played quite a bit of Halo). If the stick was "accurate enough," there wouldn't be loads of auto aim and camera adhesion on every console game out there. Using all five fingers for movement is almost as important to me as the natural fluidity of mouse aim. I just don't really understand that point of view, is all, but like I said... more power to ya.

I'm certainly not trying to belittle your opinion. There are certainly advantages to playing console games... it's just that there's nothing more "realistic" about the robotic and mechanical movement of aiming with a little joystick attached to your thumb versus the movement of your wrist/arm. If it's too fast, turn down the sensitivity and get a bigger mouse surface.. :P

I only ever really preferred the pad in games that have spent a lot of care and love on making it work... Like Halo. A huge amount of thought was put into the slow pacing of the game, and it just clicks.

I dunno how someone can in their right minds qualify what we are seeing in this video as "rough" or "horrible".

The scale of the maps is HUGE (if not at least comparing to MW or MW2), and everything is destructible.
The lighting and environment effects are amazing, the sound is unmatched by any other game out there. The only two things I can point out is the aliasing (which is not enough to make it look rough or horrible) and the crappy rag-doll physics (although i remember seeing some videos in which i could swear I saw some cool mocap death animations, maybe different builds?)

I can go either way w/ death animations. Rag dolls with no restrictions look ridiculous, but seeing the same canned animation over and over is equally bad. We need.... Euphoria in every game!

Oh yeah, Euphoria should be in EVERY game. And yet, Rock* is the only developer that uses it. Baffling.

On the control front, I gotta give you that one. I realized that I hate any game with a passion that doesn't have some form of aim-assist on console. I guess my comments are for the good games, he, he. The realism comment is kinda moot, I guess, depending on what exactly you're looking for, and what your definition of "realism" is. Anyways...

agreed.
Although after almost two years of cod's mocap death animations, i don't grow tired of them.

Looking good, but it's impossible at this point to say how well the game mechanics work and whether the game will have good balance. For a few hours I can stare at graphics but then it's gameplay all the way... I'm sure you all agree with me...

I think BF2MC had simply excellent mechanics and balance, which BC1 unfortunately lacked (I only tried the demo but it was clunky enough). For some fracking reason these things are hard to get right... IW did well with MW1 but then screwed up MW2, which had no public beta. It's promising that they have a beta for this game.

I never played BF2 on PC, but I absolutely love Bad Company 1. It's probably my most played game( I definitely like it better than COD) despite the minor flaws. I want this one more than any other game next year...
