Wow this is pathetic. So I have subscribe to get a freaking beta? So Betas are officially not free anymore?

Fileplanet registration is free..

Fileplanet waitinglines suck though.. I'm #247 out of 983 atm on the UK server, still waiting..

Got it installed, created an account, menu's etc look great, but for some reason I cannot connect to any server.. They are either full or it stays on connecting forever.. And sometimes even no servers whatsoever show up..

I gave up after 20 minutes of trying.. Not in the mood to figure that sh*t out right now.. It gave me flashbacks to the nightmare that was BF2 when it was released with it's totally crap built-in (Gamespy) serverbrowser..

But I'm sure the game itself is great (I guess)..

At this point.. great is a bit of a reach. But I do encourage people to actually learn the map and all of the kits before condemning it just yet, and remember, it is a beta. I think if you match your expectations with the games current state, and you're willing to look past some of the flaws, you can have a lot of fun with this beta. I'm still looking forward to the final game, despite some of the negative reactions around the web.

Ok, I actually got into a game (beta servers are very busy) and played about 45 minutes..

I dunno if this will be a big succes, the game is a bit to complicated for that I'm affraid.. I'm no nooby with games like this, but even I was totally clueless in the beginning of what to do.. I think most people won't have the patience to learn a game like this.. Vehicles were also very strange to control, the aiming and movement are seperate which is very confusing.. In the end I just went sniper, and started railgunning people from a distance.. At least that was an easy task..

You need to put serious time in a game like this to learn it.. That will put a lot of people off.. In BF2 things are much clearer, maybe because everybody knows straight away what everything does that's in that game because it's based on real things.. In ET:QW you have all these strange sci-fi classes and weapons etc that you have no clue about and don't understand straight away..

That's definitely true Inflatable.. the game does have a pretty steep learning curve. I think they should publish some sort of newbie guide on the web for people. I mean, Dystopia did that for the community and that's a free mod.. I figure a real studio could probably handle the same. Then again, it's a beta, and maybe there will be some guides or even a tutorial in the final release.

Vehicles do need tweaking too.. and like I said previously, especially the tank.

Hard to pick a favorite class, because the game really encourages the use of different kits for different portions of the campaign objectives. I'm really digging the Engi kit, and Field Ops. Other than that, the Soldier/Aggressor is an easy kit to start off with. Especially with the hyperblaster -- run and gun murder with that weapon.

I've been playing this for about 2 hours now and will definitely buy it when it comes.

For me the best part has to be when playing as a GDF covert-ops (the sewer gates have to be open), is to murder some guy on the over team and then assume his identity (when disguised as the enemy you can go through Strogg force field thingys and trip lines without worry), run straight trhough the front lines and hack the objective.

Strogg seem to be overpowered, especially with the Icarus.
I can't stand the vehicle control mechanics, fortunately i can't see any point in using vehicles on such a small/cramp map.

I'm not sure if I agree.. although maybe they're only useful on one objective. The human tank can be a force to be reckoned with when trying to defend the EMP Disruptor.

I'm not sure, but it's worth noting (not entirely related) that the default framerate is locked @ 30fps, but you can tweak it higher if desired. A lot of the physics/animation are designed around that framerate. A bit odd for a Quake game.

I'm actually not playing yet, because I had to re-dl the client. Didn't realize there wouldn't be a patch.

I enjoy the game, although it's not what a lot of people were expecting.. it's not the Battlefield killer than many BF2 players were hoping for. It's more like Quake, and Enemy Territory, than it is BF. I'll be on soon, will report back with impressions of the new map and any noticeable improvements.

My comments on the games frame limiter were apparently now wrong anyway--when I installed the beta 2 client they had changed the FPS settings. I actually changed them back.. because the game simply doesn't keep up to 60fps on my machine. Would rather it stay smooth than hit the occasional spike.

The new map is pretty neat, the HUD improvements (especially to the human sniper rifle, tank, and Strogg Walker) are pretty fantastic too. It's also quite cool that there are more human vehicles to play with in this map.. two flying vehicles that weren't in the previous release.

I have problems to get 30fps. I am currently testing different settings to get best graphics quality/ performance. Probably just set everything to low. Not that great looking but I am used to it.
