Excellent list, i didnt vote cause i just couldnt bring myself to name just a handful of games and i couldnt order them either.
That said i agree with the list pretty much, its been a phenominal year for games so even getting into a list of 10 games is an incredible achievement for any title nevermind winning any distinction.

God of War, AC2, Mass Effect 2, Deus Ex (and probably a few more)...wont come out in 2009.

They will release new info and media, but release date will be on 2010 atleast, which basically means that list is inaccurate and a wishlist.

CONGRATS Gears of War 2, best game i played this year hands down :D

Plus, RB2 feels more like an extension of the first game to me. I see it as a giant song expansion. A bad one.

That part doesn't bother me. Cuz I mean, what could they change? The core mechanic pretty much has to stay the same, and any little world tour changes/additions they made don't really concern me.

Although I would of rather had MGS4 or GTA4 be GOTY, I can't say I disagree with the top 4 games, as they were all awesome aswell.

I've been watching my roommate play through MGS4, and there's so much in terms of archaic, clunky gameplay that I really couldn't see it in the top spot.

just the way this forum is prevents a ps3 exclusive reaching top spot (no matter how good it may be). and before you say anything, no, im not saying you're all fanboys, but the fact is, majority of the people here dont own or havnt even played a ps3, and most of the people here used to reside over at xboxyde.

the fact 2 ps3 exclusives are even in the top 10 surprises me tbh. but then so does fable 2 being in the top 10 at all.

Most of the games in that top 10 are flawed in some major way too

Something I like about the top lists (also reviews) for the past year

Gears 2 still has a completely flawed MP. Fable 2 has game breaking bugs and is an incredibly shallow game. Left 4 Dead has insane lag when you use split screen at all (also shallow and the AI didn't stand out the way it should have). Little Big Planet is a case of too much big brother watching over your shoulder. Lost Oddysey is generally just there because of the lack of RPG's on the market, and there are a lot of rpg fans on the board.

That's probably the games greatest flaw, it's so little game and so much movie. I'm not saying the experience isn't a good one but i'd never rate MGS4 as GAME of the year.There's simply far too little game in there.

I agree and disagree there, the hyped games are generally the best games anyway, games are usually hyped because they have something special to offer, whether its a gameplay experience, interface, multiplayer, single player, gfx or just a great story. However it doesnt always hold true, take Mirrors edge for example, 42nd, exactly where it should be, a game that was hyped and failed to deliver and has suffered due to that fact. Hype doesnt always benefit a game.

Unhyped games generally are even more flawed and generally lack the budget and execution of games with financial punch behind them.
Out of the top 10 I have played all but LBP and own all but LBP, L4D and NG2 and the list seems fairly correct to me.
As was said above all games have their flaws, people however can see past those flaws and let the total experience or whatever they got out of the game dictate how they feel about it.
Gears 2 has horrid multiplayer, i played it once and shelved it but the single player was great. MGS4 is a horrid mess of installations, cutscenes and bad multiplayer, but the single player experience still gives something unique and fun.

I'd rather a players own list than a magazine editor, swayed by hype, bias and big cheques handing out the plaudits. At least with a base in gamers you get a much more reliable platform and diverse opinion swayed more by personal experience than what was slipped to them under the table.

GOW2 was the best game i have played this year by far! and go Last Remnant :)

Gamers are affected as much with the hype if not more. Also many doesn't even play that many new games a year so they will choose the hyped and safe bets or played older games like me most of the year. Then there is fanboys too :P

Na, me neither. I'm not complaining about that. It's just the reason that the game is not in my mind when it comes to GOTY.
