I think mirrors edge is the best looking UE3 game.. but thats just me.

this map looks especially nice, the one with the scoreboard looks great as well. I can't wait to see what they add to Horde mode.

It's hard to say with Epic updating the engine all the time. I guess if any implementations are done without proper optimization then, yeah.

Epic are pretty good at optimizing techniques though.

Interesting question. Shout out to Epic boards and see what they say?

I think maybe "tech" wise it has, but I think both ME2 and Batman have instances where it's rather breathtaking still, beyond what's being shown here.

It has a ton of potential in use of colour, as ME2 shows with its incredible city locales, and even Batman arguably uses colour to create a bigger impression.

I've never really had an eye for distinguishing tech from artistic quality unless it's a huge jump. Even then, I only intellectually notice it, but my gasp-for-air factor when I see something pretty can only be triggered by an artistic impression really.

So I guess that plays a part in my belief that yeah, UE3 has a lot more to give, but it's probably gonna be on the artistic level more than necessarily on the tech one. Medal of Honor is UE3 aswell, and I think that'll look pretty sweet.

I think its safe to say it will look amazing in motion, hell Gamesradar big write up said although they were shown an unpolished build, it was pushing Crysis2 for the crown, all this with 4player coop and more to be announced hell even Halo may be challenged for its full game feature set.

All of these second hand opinions talking things up though, aren't we past that at this point? It's continually, consistently just created this completely skewed impression of - for instance - every Halo game since the first.

I dunno, maybe I just don't care enough, but is it horribly terrible if it just looks really good and doesn't CHALLENGE CRYSIS (in the mind of someone who clearly doesn't comprehend the impossibility of that statement)?

When 2 respected gaming media outlets say it, its not really a cheap second hand opinion is it. Anyway it matters not E3 is just round the corner and we are sure to see some footage then, i just watched the GOW2 e3 presentation again and that was jaw dropping, i'm looking forward to see what they bring this time round.

You mean not cheap in the sense that you pay for the magazine? Because it's still second hand opinion to me. It's hyperbole in the purest form, and with a less condemning eye, still just one dude trying to quantify the fuzzy feeling he gets with words that have seen so much inflation that "amazing" is the first one you reach for.

At that point, to add some emphasis, wild comparisons come flying out of mouths and you're so far from an actual, level headed impression that it's just lost all meaning.

I've no doubt Gears 3 will look great, I still think Gears 2 is easily the most impressive looking 360 game (with some artistic exceptions of course) so I'm not saying it WON'T have visuals that jump out of your TV and give you a relaxing back rub.. but I'm kinda suggesting that maybe it's not hugely important that it does. Maybe it's okay if it just looks really good and is a brill game.

It matters not as EVERYONE has quoted second hand opinions, as when you dont have the game or any footage thats all you can go on right?, Hell thats what most of of all the threads on this forum talk about (secondhand opinions) as thats all we have until the game is in our hands.

I think Simon is just simply saying that the reviewer might be getting carried away by going the comparison route and whether gears 3 is a rival to Crysis doesn't really matter, as what matters is just that the game looks really good and plays really good, so in the end who really cares what game is THE best looking?

Anyways, it's just the impression those screens gave me. I didn't see a big upgrade in terms of details, lighting, textures, water, anything.
