I have to say the slow pace gets me bored within 30 minutes of playing, plus it's not really clear about what your next objective is or where you should go next.

Like for example when you have to find Fist.

Its an RPG What do you mean slow pace, explain?, or are you saying the whole sci-fi thing bores you?

Well the slow pace will put some people off. It takes a while to get going and while some - like me - will enjoying pouring over the codex and chatting to the locals, it will be frustrating for those looking for a quick firefight. The graphics are generally superb - especially with the grainy film effect turned on - but there is some slowdown in the larger battles. Loading screens can interfere a little more of then than you'd like, although they mainly occur when landing on planets. And disappearing corpses are a shame in an otherwise perfectly crafted - and believable - universe. Finally the enemy AI can be a bit hit and miss - Halo this isn't. I came across at least 3 or 4 assailants who didn't realise I was pummelling bullets into them until far too late. Generally though the combat is a real challenge, especially if you've been lulled in by a preceding conversation or lengthy exploration.

I just think the story is very slow, it's liking your 30 mins into a film and nothing has happened yet.

I do like Sci-fi to some degree, star wars, a bit of stra trek, but can't say I'm that into it, I think the story is ok so far in ME, just it doesn't keep my attention for long.

I think its quite the opposite, to me its the probably the quickest paced RPG i've ever played by far. Also read the journals if you dont know what to do next, its pretty straight forward or do you mean theres no arrow which points to your next objective?

I read the journals but it still doesn't say , X can be found here.

It expects you to search around for someone, which would be ok if the area was small, but its not, I guess I don't have the patience to spend 30 mins looking for someone thats all.

There is an ! mark normally where your next objective is, however you can't see it until you are on the same map as it.

That quote is for those who are playing Mass Effect looking for a SHOOTER not an RPG, all RPG's take some time to get going, but i disagree as for me from the get go the story gets going and the exploration and character development are top notch, but i guess its not for everyone, but Joli tell what point in the game are you at now? as last week you posted that "you are enjoying it" now its to slow for you meaning its slowed down for you further into the game?, so i'm interested to know how far in you are in hrs only, as i dont want any spoilers.

Eh? It usually tells you the area that they are in i.e. Chora's Den, then when your in the area, an icon appears on the map pin pointing exactly where the objective is.

I just mentioned it above ;)

I am kind of enjoying it, however I do find it quite slow paced, it's probably because I'm used to JRPG's so much, I found Elder Scrolls to be very slow paced also.

I'm not a huge fan of exploration unless I'm playing an MMO or the areas are small.

Exploration is a huge part of most Bioware RPG's, and most western RPG's in general.

Exploartion for the hell of it is one thing, exploration to find someone to continue the story is a pain in the ass IMO.

Generally I like to complete an RPG before I start exploring.

It's kind of frustrating as I want to like this game, but it seems like a lot of hard work to me lol.

I am in bliss right now from hearing Jolli's frustration with Mass Effect. Sorry Jolli, its not actually about your suffering that I am receiving this joy. But this sounds like almost everyone's perspective of Morrowind. Most people couldn't find the guy to start the first mission, and admittedly, it took me 2 hours to find him, but it felt awesome exploring. Morrowind IMO was way better than Oblivion, as the sense of exploration and discovery was far more rewarding. Admittedly the game had some flaws (the actual gameplay mechanics: fighting for example) but it was so complex and you basically had to find everything out for yourself, so it just felt...wonderful. I can't imagine how many hours I've played Morrowind.

And Mass Effect is sounding similarily complex, no handholding, you actually have to read your journal entries to understand what your doing and think for a minute about where you are going *gasp*. I thought all games had become incredibly simple to appeal to the mass public. Oblivion was the last straw for me, way to easy, barely any depth, just a huge amount of content.

I can't wait to be with you Mass Effect!
