If that cutscene is at all a good indication of actual gameplay visuals, animations, then wow.

But alas, even though they say it's straight up in-game engine and is what the game is going to look like, I still remember being heavily burned from the E3 06 reveal trailer.

Would be cool if they could actually release to us some screenshots, but I doubt we'll get anything like that anytime soon.

Best quality youtube vid of Reach cinematic by far. It shows just how good this damn thing really looks. I just hope they aren't pulling our legs. We've seen cinematics from halo games before that have been downgraded. Going to keep my expectations in check big time until I actually start seeing some gameplay.

Bungie had an opportunity to show us actual gameplay and they instead selected a cut-scene. TYPICAL. I'm sorry Bungie but we've been down this road with you and you've played bait and switch with the graphics before. Until we see the game engine at work, running actual playable game footage we're just not going to trust this thing that you've show us.

Seriously Bungie, you're not going to hype me this time.

I'm sorry Bungie but we've been down this road with you and you've played bait and switch with the graphics before.

When? They've shown cutscenes that have looked better than gameplay before, but they never claimed it was gameplay. It's your own damn fault for ever thinking it was.

I thought it looked good, but I have two little gripes. First, I wish they opted for a softer, more real-looking skin ala KZ2 or MW2 instead of the shine. That said, the models looked TONS better than Halo 3's. Second, I didn't think the animation looked good. They need to hop on the mo-cap bandwagon and get some Uncharted or even CoD4-level animation during the cutscenes. There was just an awkward, unnatural pace and weightlessness to the movements. In all honesty though, if the animation during gameplay is improved upon, I don't really care if the cut-scene animation seems a bit off.

Upon rewatching the trailer, albeit in horribly tiny quality, the animation only bothers me when the one spartan walks through the door and is stopped by the chick. This particular gripe has been downgraded from "little" to "virtually non-existant pending more footage."

I pray...PRAY...that Reach has a LOT more in the way of atmospheric effects than Halo 3. I want fog and smoke and steam and snow and ash...with beams of light shining through them all the while.

Yo, I think that's a spartan 3 and not a spartan 2 guys. Something about the armor seems off and even the helmet... I don't know! Could this game be around Spartan 3s aka the inferior spartans?

I'm just going to call it now, the gameplay won't have dynamic shadows and lighting like in the cutscenes. The way the characters are lit looks a bit too similar to Halo 3's cutscenes.

Well, we can't be so certain just yet because this is an entirely new engine. The old Halo engine worked that way, but maybe this new one won't.

I could be wrong but I don't think anyone at Bungie has ever been quoted saying that Reach was being created with a "new" gaming engine.

Something like Reach, obviously, we don't want to use a three, four year old engine and technology, so we typically tend to reinvent the wheel and build a new foundation for each big launch, and that's where a lot of our time goes.

Not only is it a brand new engine, but this is an in-game cutscence taking from the beginning of the actual game, so with a year to go the builds will get even better!

I love how they have seriously upgraded the graphics but still maintained the original Halo look and feel.

Just watched the HD version on my TV, just wow looked CG like, love the new look and feel and its leaps and bound ahead of H3, i just watched the opening H3 cutscene then this one, amazing difference for sure.!! this game will own.

No. Spike isn't available in HD in Canada yet.

Did you not read my second post? Also, video quality doesn't really matter; awkward animation can be spotted regardless of resolution.

If you watched an obvious cutscene and jumped to the conclusion that the gameplay would look the same, then yes, it's your fault, especially in the absence of Bungie claiming that a cutscene is gameplay. And no, I'm not touchy or defensive, but I'm not a fan of people blaming others for their own naivety.

You didn't like the music? Now the music was the about the only thing that impressed me. It was a true departure from what we've heard before.

The strings in Halo's previous scores are usually very low tempo and deliberately so, keeping in time with familiar Halo choir chant. But the strings in the Reach trailer were very intense and had a powerful crescendo.

It sounds like Marty is experimenting and stretching out a little bit and I like that. It shows at least that the composer is bringing his A game. Until we see some gameplay we won't know if the Bungie devs have brought theirs.

The fact that it's not gameplay is very obvious...so obvious, in fact, that writing it in bolded caps with three exclamation points is quite unnecessary.

That to me sounds like someone who was naive enough to think an obviously non-gameplay cutscene was actually gameplay and blames Bungie for pulling a "bait and switch" though I don't ever remember them claiming their cutscenes were actually representative of gameplay.

Grim, that was probally why i did not like it, i will watch it again give the song a other chance now i know its not what i expected, but i love the halo soundtracks (not as much as mass effect or splinter cell 3) this just sounded odd.
