Granted, now I really don't understand their purpose at all. Why would you use an assassination over a quick melee attack if they're both one hit kills to the rear?

Why tea-bag somebody? It's just a form of taunt. If you only play to be super serious and competitive, then you'll probably want to avoid the assassinations.

Well, I guess that makes sense. I'd rather just tea-bag someone, it doesn't lock you into an animation that makes you a target.

Yea, the fancy assassination kills is just another choice if you see fit to use it.

I'll definitely take advantage of it when I can.

I've also decided to go and change my mind about the control scheme. It'll be default for me, RB for melee and assassination, x for action/reload that'll do for me.

I'm also doing a bit of planning with regards to the plasma repeater. I prefer to vent the gun with x, as opposed to rb.

Yea, but it's fun or cool to do, it doesn't necessarily need to have a reward. Options, even if they aren't always taken advantage of, are a good thing. For example, there's basically no tangible reward to customizing your version of Noble Six to your liking, but they allow you to do that as well.

The Halo: Reach multiplayer Beta begins on May 3rd and our current target end date is now set for May 19th.

A feature which also does not put you at a considerable disadvantage to use. But hey, I'll probably use it to, if it's actually "cool," and I'll certainly take advantage of killing people who do it constantly.

My Spartan in Halo 3 is pink. I'm not scared. Plus, you're red and blue in team modes.

1) Not all, but if the videos I've seen are any indication, we're still clearly dealing with red versus blue in team modes. Thank god too!

Did you put a hat on? I had a purple cat with a cowboy hat. There were other awesome combinations, doubt we'll see any new ones in the Beta, though.

The way it's done in Reach is the way to go. It'll make the game more consistent even with latency. Halo 3 had various problems with the melee, the thing that was "fixed" was the simultaneous beatdowns. I'm sure they learned from that and we'll see something similar to the Halo 3 solution.

Hopefully. My point was really they also nerfed grenades in Halo 2 so between games there is usually some change they make with good intentions that plays out differently, even with all the work they do. That's not their fault at all, just the way it goes.

I always hated the way shields worked in Halo 3, Jin is right about that. Halo 2 shields had a very good balance in close quarters combat, but they're not using the same mechanics as Reach. A melee while running would inflict a bit more than 1/2 shield damage and a shot from the BR to the head would instantly kill afterwards. Still it's very similar and it will make the game better.

I'm just a melee heavy player so would rather the game is unbalanced in my favour! :P

The only real problem I see is armour lock. It's just too strong on a close quarters map, it promotes randomness in FFA and it's downright overpowered in a team game, it's making most power weapons useless. It will get abused extensively, have you seen how fast it recharges? Bungie have to either rebalance it or it won't appear on loadouts on smaller maps (after people whined on their forums for months).

I really don't see how anyone can come to the conclusion without playing the game. Watch the Luke Smith video, nearly everyone who deploys armour lock comes out of it with a grenade in close vicinity. Plus, unlike the other games. They can possibly have health damage that won't recharge whilst in lock.

I'm not concerned about that at all (apart from the fact it looks pretty stupid). Loadouts are indeed playlist & map configurable too so maybe it won't be available on small arena type matches anyway.

I'm definitely all over Evade when playing as an Elite though.

Even if it is abusive, its recharge could be changed. Balance is (hopefully) part of the reason for a public beta.

As regards Grift's attacks on the assassination animations, I don't think it will take a rocket scientist to figure out when it is safe to use the animation and when it's a bad idea. Many people, especially teens, will get a kick out of a more elaborate way of "owning" your enemy. I won't be using it too often, but if there is no threat in the area, it might be fun to do for a while just to see the different animations. I think sneaking up behind someone in the air on jetpacks and slamming them into the ground could look/be pretty funny.

Anyhow, I wanna puke after reading bungie signed a ten year deal with Activision. Thank god Microsoft owns the Bungie universe as I'd hate to see that wind up in the same state as call of duty and guitar hero.

It should be really interesting to see who Microsoft chooses to take up the mantle for Halo 4 and future halo games.

Just read the bungie/activision thing. I guess Bungie owns 100% of the IP and they have 100% control over the franchise. If the deal is being described in truth (granted a big if), then this might actually not be as bad as I thought.

time will tell I guess... but it sure doesn't sound good due to Activision's track record.
