Nobody on here talking about this? Man, I can't believe how long I was sleeping on this. I pretty much only watched the E3 trailer and thought it'd be a linear story mission type of game given it was from Guerilla. I had no expectations because at best Killzone is a B- tier franchise. But WOW. Solid, solid game. I can't pick one aspect it does better than other games like it, but it does everything it tries to do so well that overall it elevates it. Probably the least glitchy open world game I've played. It's also really beautiful. I can't think of a prettier game either. Beautiful.

I was busy playing it. ;D

There have been a fair few times I have caught myself saying "Jesus, this game looks incredible." Probably one of my favourite Sony games because it has fantastic graphics and I am shocked at how fun a lot of the mechanics are especially as you said, coming from the guys who made Killzone.

When you catch the game at different times of the day, sometimes you do just stop and take it all in.

My biggest gripe so far is with Aloy speaking ALL THE FUCKING TIME. I had to send an e-mail very quickly, so I got up and left the game unpaused and she never stopped saying "Maybe my focus can showme maybe my focus canshowme maybe my focuscanshowme maybe myfocuscanshowme maybemyfocuscanshowme."

Otherwise, yeah, it's a pretty awesome game so far.

Poor Alloy speaking to herself. Maybe she has some kind of mental disorder.

Of all the characters in this game, Aloy's VA stands out the most as unfitting. Based on how the story is going I'm wondering if that is intentional, but for right now I don't know. It is the only blemish so far.

I'm really enjoying it so far. It reminds me a lot of The Witcher 3. It's lacking the sense of humor TW3's writing brings and the side quests are definitely not on par, but it makes up for it in the combat, which is leagues better. Fighting the bigger dinosaurs is so fucking fun, I killed my first Sawtooth and it took about 10 deaths and 10+ minutes but I brought that fucker down.

For me it's less about her voice acting in general but more about her constant need to monologue everything. I just got to a city and upon passing through the gate, Aloy couldn't help but spit key elements of what she wants to do during the next plot point of the story, but halfway through the long stretch of land, I felt like turning back and doing some side quests and at the exact same point the dialogue was triggered she repeated EVERY SINGLE LINE.

Then 10 hours after doing a bunch of trials and sidequests, got to the same point and she did it again. Now as many times as I say "Hotdamn this game looks incredible" it is also accompanied by "Could you just shut up." But I am at level 40 now and about 20 hours in and have only been to about half of the world. Every area is bursting at the seams with life especially Meridian, even though you can't interact with a lot of it, the game really sells you on its existence.

Did you fight it at level 1 and on Very Hard or something? I've found it nearly impossible to die to every robot because of how generous the game is with its tools and mechanics even on very hard. Stalkers are the worst mostly because of their ranged ability, but other than that not really had a problem.

Before I turned it off last night, I even took down my first Stormbird which depleted my resources, not because it was difficult, but because it glitched and started standing in the sky, then when I lined it up for a critical hit, it fell into water that was too deep for me to find my footing and finish it off, so instead I just swam next to it non-lethally.

LOL savage, but yeah even the first Sawtooth wasn't that big of an ordeal. I too encountered the Stormbird glitch the first time I fought one at like level 18. I didn't retry until I was level 30 something, and I rekt that fool with Tearblaster. Thunderjaws don't pose much threat with it either. In general the game gets super easy once you hit level 30, partially because you get used to all the enemy types and also because you seem to deal a ton more damage.

Only super annoying glitch was when I was fighting these Rockbreakers and I killed all but one but it just kept tunneling for 10mins but I really wanted the kill as they were dropping Shadow Mods.

Shadow Mods are one up from Very Rare I take it? I should probably advance the plot a bit more. In action/RPG's I always spend too long levelling in one place and exhausting all resources like some ostracised, bite-sized, red-headed, Galactus that by the time I get to certain areas, I don't need half the shit I snorkelled up in the opening 24 hours.

Rockbreakers sound fun, so the moment I get time, I'm jumping back into... into... What the hell is the Horizon: Zero Dawn world called?

Oh woops I typed out Sawtooth, but was actually referring to the Thunderjaw. I was level 23, and it was 27, and it fucked my shit up

I'm just being mindful of other people who may be playing it and haven't seen some of the robo-beasties.

Really enjoyed the game, also Platin'd it, don't do that too often. But kid-Aloy with that Bonk's-head really freaked me out...hahahaha

The stars of the game were the robots anyway... and the Cauldron's, man those Cauldron's - awesome!

I actually thought the cauldron's were pretty bland. The first one you get to visit was long for no reason, Im glad by the end of it they realised that they dragged down the pace of the game drastically and as you delved deeper into the world they got shorter.

It was only ever fun at the end of a cauldron when they threw the stars of the show at you, except for that time they didn't and you had to fight boring ass humans.

no way, the cauldrons where great. i just wish the second one wasn't essentially identical to the first, and i wish the 4th was actually a full "dungeon" not just the boss.

i loved the first (serious matrix real world vibes and a complete tonal shift from the natural landscape you'd been exploring up to that point) and the third, which was overgrown and the shift to human combat and wave based survival was awesome too. i just wish the other 2 shared the same variety to mix things up a bit. the 4th was such a huge disappointment. literally 3 steps forward...fight a thunderjaw (of which i'd fought about 7 prior to it anyway) i missed the lead up.

i really hope sequels build upon them. they reminded me of AC2's more linear "dungeons". but ubisoft where idiots and completely scrapped them after that game. i want GG to add more, with more variations.

They represent a bigger gripe I have with the game overall and that is everything just looks awesome. That's not a huge negative against the game, it's just something I noticed. The reason I wanted the cauldrons to be over was because aside from how visually stunning they were, there was very little reason I enjoyed being there; no challenging puzzles or anything, no super unique encounters either, just a visual treat down a bunch of corridors where all I remember were the "bosses" at the end (particularly the Snapmaw and then *poof* here's a Ravager as well) but by then, chances are you've fought them all by then anyway.

Of course I would have preferred a heavier agent of good puzzle design attributed to these cauldrons than "machine of the week" but I don't think Guerilla are quite there yet. While the cauldron with the plant-life and the ceiling caved in was a nice change of design palette contrasting the form of lush greenery against the harshness of cold and metal slates, humans in HZ: D are just boring as hell to fight.

Is there any DLC planned for this game? I was tempted to sell it because it is very one and done, but I like it so much that I'm definitely willing to hold onto it.

i actually like the humans too. they offer a complete change of pace with the way things are tackled. granted if you just run in and hit them they're about as threatening as a carboard cut-out, but i liked that you could essentially 100% stealth an encampment. it was a stark contrast to the roll-roll-shoot-shoot of the robot fighting. again, one i hope they add more of but improve at the same time. i really hope they don't do a bioware and just shit-can it entirely

and yes. there is DLC in the works.

that's why i think you're supposed to systematically pick them off from the bushes stealthily. they're not really designed to be fought.

Well, that DLC news is good to hear, because there isn't much else to do once the game is done. I'm just going to go ahead and assume that the DLC isn't free?

Regarding the humans, yeah they were a change of pace, but by the time I embarked on bandit camp hunting, I had already bought the stealth suit and had put two very rare stealth mods on it which allowed you to walk right up to people and stealth kill them from the front for the most part. Coupled with all Aloy's moveset upgrades, it was harder to stay visible than invisible.

I think a lot of this can be tied to the fact that the game is very forgiving, understanding because it needed to be accessible and while I would have liked it to be far more challenging I see why they designed it this way.

by that point it's easy to understand why you didn't get enjoyment out of it. i tackled things as they were revealed to me. be it bandit camps, cauldrons, hunting zones etc and they all presented a challenge. at least on the hardest difficulty anyway. but by the end, when you're running around with that invincibility armour everything becomes trivial.
Posté par scoobs0688

as i say, i liked that they offered a change of pace. if they intended for you to just run in and shoot bombs at them while dodging around it would just feel like a robot fight with something fleshy. bandit camps were basically my chance to get my sam fisher on.
