Glamdring never glowed in LOTR either
And it was bad decision there too, Jackson thought we are stupids and be confused by them.

I appreciate that all three swords were meant to glow, but doing so would have made each one a bit less... distinct. They're all given their 'air-time' when Elrond is explaining the origins of each to Gandalf and co, which I really liked.

So Sting as the only sword that glows was the right way to go for me, not so much to avoid confusion but more to make each sword feel more unique. Orcist is highlighted mostly by the fact that it's an Elvish sword, made even more significant by Thorin being the one wielding it. That doesn't make it distinct, but that's kind of its importance in the film. And Glamdring is just known to be Gandalf's sword, which is all it needs to be.

I absolutely loved it though, but then I'm a Jackson/Tolkien nut so I was always going to love it.

I was also astounded to discover that Return of the King came out nine years ago... seems like just yesterday I was going to the cinema to see it. Crazy.

They can all be unique since people arent stupid to know differences, and the obvious change of all them...size, length and shape. It wouldnt kill them to just add a glow to all of them.
Besides, more color on weapons and such in a fantasy world is ALWAYS welcome and should be more done. Its flashy, it looks coo and makes them unique.

I kinda see your point but I don't agree with it, I would have greatly prefered to them to glow, even if different kinda of color, like gandalf's a white glow and Orcrist a Silver glow or something, they were made with that characteristic.

Oh well.

Well I saw the Hobbit yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. Maybe it was because my expectations were lowered because some of the reviews I've read, but I really enjoyed it.
I actually think that the stuff they added is very nicely done. There are some changes that I don't dig that much (Like Thorin being such a dick and his hate for the elves) and some of the shots really show that it's mostly CGI (like the eagles) but overall I really enjoyed it!

@FireWire

I havent read the book but I read from people who has and says Thorin is suppose to have that atitude against Bilbo and the elves.
But even so, when the elves were on the hill just watching with no help of course one would be pissed especially when they are suppose to be allies.

I wished Peter Jackson would use actors all the time for their orcs and goblins and use CGI for tons of characters on screen.
I dont get it, they have the money to spend alot to make it as goof as possible, and they used tons of actors and such in all three LOTR movies, why cut it short on this one?
I hope they havent gone the same route with Hobbit 2 and 3 would be a shame if so.

I have read the book(s, also LotR) and he doesn't have an attitude in the book, in the book he's depicted as being regal and honor bound.
In the books the Elves are not even in the picture when Smaug invades Erebor.
"The whole dwarves hate elves" thing is something that happens after the events of the war of the five armies. After he doesn't want to give the humans and the elves a share of the treasure, especially not the arkenstone. And that happens at the end of the hobbit.

Fire speaks the truth. Even in the portion where you might think Thorin is being a dick, it's kind of understandable that he's protective of all the riches the dragon has lorded over for so long.

I really liked the Hobbit (2D). More action than I was expecting and I liked the actor they picked for Bilbo and the dwarves were less annoying than I had expected. If you liked LotR, especially the first, then you should like this. I liked the story a lot, dialogue was good, and the CGI has really come a long way since a decade ago (e.g. the trolls/orcs/golbins are much better designs with more variety).

Django unchained, Zero Dark Thirty, enjoyed both. Enjoyed the hell out of Django. Might even be my favorite movie of 2012. Incredibly funny, incredibly well made, but how serious it got at times also really surprised me. Incredible performances from Leonardo Dicaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, and Christoph Waltz. Jamie Foxx did a really good job as well, but the others just stood out so much more, but I think that was largely part of the intention.

In some ways, I'm tempted to say it's Tarantino's best yet, and that's a big statement considering some of his other impressive work that I love so much.

I'm stunned that I've been hesitating on seeing the Hobbit, because I heard so many things I didn't like, but it's LOTR, and I loved the first three LOTR movies, so it at least deserves a chance.

I really liked how Tarantino chose to use music in Django. Very well done. It really enhanced the movie, and that isn't always the case with a lot of movies.

I don't like the musical choices for the fact that they are necessarily songs I would like to listen to, as in quite a few cases they simply aren't. I like them for their, in my view, strong ability, regardless of time period appropriateness, for capturing the right mood of the particular moment, and also due to the fact that I think their being chosen is both clever, and in some cases so bizarre that it's genius. There is a freedom that Tarantino displays in the making of this movie that is a large part of what makes me enjoy it so much. This is a movie that doesn't at all forget that it's there to entertain an audience, and is very unashamed in its effort to do so. You can tell they had a lot of fun making this movie. He didn't concern himself with being overtly politically correct, he threw caution to wind, had a lot of fun, but at the same time he didn't also mind getting a bit serious at times.

I mean, he did some very bold shit in this movie, some of which I'm certain will offend, but if people are offended, then I think they miss the point. Slavery in itself is bizarre, it's a joke, and so there should be no surprise that we get a movie which focuses on that subject, and in its execution, isn't afraid to itself be bizarre in its own, unique way. That's pretty much the movie's goal. Slavery is preposterous and bizarre in the most extreme of ways, and I'll go ahead and make a movie that is its preposterous and bizarre equal. To sum up Django Unchained: it's the grand theft auto of movies about slavery. It totally has that personality.

Pandorum, isn't that the sci-fi flick from a couple of years ago with the stranded spaceship or something?

This weekend I watched 3 scifi movies that came out this year. Star Trek Into Darkness, After Earth and Oblivion.

Oblivion was the best of the three, but it wasn't executed flawlessly, but it did have a nice idea. It reminded me of Sam Rockwell in Moon (hope that's not too big a spoiler).

Star Trek was pretty disappointing. Surprisingly Benedict Cumberbach was the best part of the movie, but the plot progression didn't make a lot of sense to me. And by the end everything just felt forced.

After Earth was pretty bad. Just Will Smith's kid running around not listening to him and complaining. Then he became a man after facing his fears. The Smith family should have kept it as a Home Video.

So in summation: Oblivion > Star Trek 2 >>> After Earth.
