They even sacrifice other things in the movie to make use of it as much as possible
That's precisely what I don't like 3d movies to do.

The whole movie is created and intended for the platform. They even sacrifice other things in the movie to make use of it as much as possible
3D is a big part of Avatar too. The movie would probably hold up without it, but seeing it in 2D is a disservice to the awesomeness of that movie.. and they don't rely on gimmicks and cliches to make it work.

Yeah but sometimes it's okay to see a movie purely for the visual

Yeah, I agree. Go see Avatar and tell me it's not just absolutely visually stunning. It's subtle about it's 3d use though and doesn't resort to having shit flying towards the camera.

Christmas Carol doesn't really do that either. They just use space in really dramatic ways that are pretty dizzying even for me.

great technology used, awesome direction, but its too predictable, at no point did i feel i would be caught off guard by the plot, nothing complex or big twist

and why does it need to be?

are you one of those people who complain about transformers because they arnt deep enough...lol, it's a typical hollywood blockbuster. the type of film you turn your brain off and watch. if you go into the thing expecting shakespeare you only have yourself to blame.

who said i was expecting anything

i just said it was too predictable for my taste, its painfully obvious. stereotypical characters, predictable plot for the first minute etc.... sorry but for me it didnt warranty me giving it 10/10 as some people are giving it

Avatar was good, but I found it had many clichés and stuff that went unexplained just so it fits in one big movie. I'm just tired of these Hollywood endings where the good guys win, no matter what. I guess that could be considered a spoiler.

Fuck that...I'm tired of the Hollywood endings where the good guys don't win. Braveheart's one of my favourite movies....as long as I shut it off half an hour before it's done and just assume William Wallace lived a long and fruitful life.

The ending should perhaps be fitting to the story, rather than being forced one way or another ;)
And i think Avatar is supposed to be a trilogy? Right? That basically means that they just didn't leave us on a cliff hanger, which i GREATLY appreciate. Especially after Assassin's Creed 2, haha.

Well, was it that good? They lost almost everything they had, including their leader and their home. The ending opens up the possibility of a future conflict, too. In the end they'll still be struggling for their lives.

My view on the film is a different though. The story or the depth of the characters didn't interest me as much as the presentation. It felt like a window opened up to a whole new world. It was easy to believe that the main character (forgot his name) didn't want to go back to his normal life after spending a lot of time in a wheelchair. The story telling alone was brilliant and it really sucked me in.

Watched 9 a few hous ago. Didn't like it. The story was pretty weak with characters I didn't care about, and the ending was pretty much complete bullshit in a mixing of science and spirituality(read: magic) that just ended up being insulting. I would not recommend it.

Yeah I just saw it recently in 3d. Really beautiful. I feel in 3d it's once in a lifetime too. I might see if it's showing in Imax today to get the fullest experience possible. I'm not even sure if it's an Imax movie but it must be.

Just watched Avatar myself and yea it was pretty sweet, I really hate the 3D glasses though the black frame gets in the damn way and spoils the immersion for me.

I wasn't overly impressed with the use of 3D in the film but then I guess it was supposed to be subtle like that.

I disliked the glasses a bit too, since i already use glasses it was uncomfortable.

I think 3D was cool, not all over your face style.

Saw Avatar for a 3rd time today and it was totally ruined. Inconsiderate little shits of teenagers at the back being dicks until they were told to shut up and even then they left their seats several times making sure the top of their heads cut into the projector.
I had seen it in this cinema before, but this time the volume was much lower and it seemed the bulb in the projector was near dead, a lot of the scenes for the first half of the movie were so dark a LOT of the detail was lost.
Just pissed off with the whole experience, will have to see it again somewhere else to put things right.

Why do people pay good money to see a movie and then proceed to fuck it up for everyone else?

That's exactly why I don't go to the theater anymore: other people. Though, I did bite the bullet a few years ago with the LOTR trilogy.
However, I made sure to go like 10:00am on a Monday, heh; it's like having your own theater with a random old man or woman sitting ten miles away from you.

I think the worst experience I ever had was opening day for T2.
There wasn't a seat in the entire place that wasn't filled and these shitheads behind me kept kicking the seat and yapping the entire time.
Terrible Terrible.
