I just came back from watching: "Death at a funeral"

It must've been the funniest movie I've seen in a year!

I just watched Effroyables Jardins, a french movie. Ok, I hate to say it, but I almost cried. The movie is so good you have to rent it, I think there is english audio or subtitles at least. It has André Dussolier and Thierry Lhermite so I knew it was a winner beforehand.

I went to the movies yesterday with two girls (lol) to see The Orphanage from spanish director Guillermo Del Toro. If you liked Pan's Labyrinth, chances you will like this one too, but I NEVER thought it would be a "horror" movie. Man, I jumped my seats so many times =( and the theater was so jam packed, that we had to be in separate seats. One friend was just behind me, and at one time during the movie, she put her hands on my shoulders and I almost screamed lmao. It was the first time I met her (yea, date) and she was cool x) we will probably see again tomorrow, she lives less than 1KM away from me x_x

Yeah, The Orphanage looks pretty interesting. I watched a film called Wristcutters the other night. It's a really great indie flick. Check out this trailer.

I just saw Sweeney Todd, amazing movie in my opinion. Golden Globes are well earned and I feel the a Oscar for Tim Burton would also be more that justified....

Hitman
The Golden Compass

Hitman was pretty good I liked it. Watched it twice. They got some parts of 47 but it felt I was not connected in the same way as the game 47...no surprise there.

The Golden compass was cool too, but I had it on low volume so it was a bit hard to understand everything, so I am pretty much gonna rewatch it with subtitles and with higher volume, like in the daylight.

I think I willwatch Cloverfield next week or so, not sure.

I Am Legend

Started nice, went massively downhill to the point where you could swear you'd seen the exact same film before. Brilliant start though, and a crying shame it went where it did.

Hitman

Frustratingly not in cinemas here, so I couldn't see it in its right element. Astonishingly incompetent in many places, with some obscenely blatant looped dialogue that didn't fit with lip movement at all, but with some noticable peaks when it did adhere to the game and actually felt stealthy and cunning. Shunning Jesper Kyd's music was a death sentence, resulting in something much more Bourne copy like than they were (or should have been) shooting for. Bits of potential too often reduced to cheap action thrills ultimately rendered it completely forgettable.

Nothing beyond saving though, Timothy Olyphant mostly delivered, but a sequel needs a half engaging plot and capitalise on the likes of the restaurant scene - the best thing about this film.

Das leben der anderer (The lives of others)

Brilliant. I can't really say much about it without spoiling it, but it's sort of Equilibrium without the sci fi and shooting bits. Set against the backdrops of east Germany leading up to the fall of the Berlin wall. Cried a bit at the end actually.. much recommended.

28 days later

Still awesome.. Pretty much even awesome-ER now that we've seen what others have tried to do to top it. Still such an eerie believability to it, and Cillian Murphy is great. Give that guy something worthwhile to do already!

Which can also be said about Dr Who, AKA Christopher Eccleston for that matter.

Resident Evil 1 and 2

See a pattern already? :D

Yeah I've been on a bit of zombie rampage lately. If completely accepting that these films have nothing in common with the deliberately corny games, they're still reasonably entertaining. I think RE1 holds up particularly well, whereas 2 runs out of steam pretty much straight away and has trouble getting on its feet again despite the best intentions from Milla and Sienna and their sexy outfits. Still, it does turn around a bit at the very end and manages a commendably exciting set up for the third film which I've actually yet to see, despite being around in cinemas for a bit of an eternity.

Somewhere you gotta think it's a disservice to have this attached to the name Resident Evil as they're only gonna be disappointing if looked at from the perspective of an adaptation. I've seen far flimsier action romps with names like ULTIMATE FIRE MAN WARRIOR BOMB X where the entertainment value is all it has going for it and that's okay. It's difficult to fully let go and just appreciate these films for what they are, Ultimate Fire Bomb X ones with some pretty great production values and a kickass female heroine. Once you do though I think they're ultimately fairly enjoyable.

2 is a bit crap though to be honest, and really isn't helped by Nemesis who's just a bit naff when it's not chasing YOU.

I thought 3 was quite good, worth seeing, and this one actually has Claire Redfield in it.

Its just a shame they didn't actually use the charcters from the franchise in 1 and 2, besides having zombies in and Umbrella its not really much like the games.

I think they could have made the first one infinetly more scary if they had stuck to the mansion setting.

They should have made it just like the full motion video from RE1 ;)

I watched Pan's Labyrinth this weekend and Beowulf this weekend. They were both pretty good--well, Beowulf was pretty good--Pan's Labyrinth was awesome. Great, great movie.

Ah yeah I saw Beowulf aswell and was truly surprised at how close it is to the original song.

Too bad about the sometimes dreadful CG work. You have to wonder why they needed to slime it up like that at all. I mean it'd be one thing if the story was your usual generic fighting/300 like affair, but this one is strong enough to be worthwhile on its own I reckon.

Watched The Invasion, not bad but expected storyline with elements ripped from 28 Days Later for the contamination method. I also watched Shattered or something like that, with Pierce Brosnan in an evil role (lol), it was meh.
