new 120GB Hdd xbox360 -help migrate

Hi guys,
Can any of you give me a hand here. I finally bought a new 120HDD for the 360 (second hand, amazon) but the guy didn't include the transfer kit.
What are my options here?

1-Contact xbox and try to buy a cable from them? (expensive and takes a few days?)
2-Ebay (I only found one oficial cable for sale, everything else is third party, which involves baking up to the pc first, then to the new drive. Sounds fischy)
3-Get a memory card, transfer my saves to the memory card. Then redownload everything. (this sounds feasible, as i can just go to a store now, buy a card a start doing it now, and leave the download during the night.)

Ok, anyone wants to share some thoughts and wisdom with me here? I'm more inclined for the third version, just a bit unsure of how easy it is to transfer my saves and gamertag. Also, is it easy to redownload everything?

ok, I just realized i have another option.
4 - Recover gamertag, with new 120HDD on. Then, as in option 3 go to xbox live, history, and redownload everything.

Question with this option is, will my save games transfer as well? Or would i still need to do this with a memory card?

Its worth keeping two Hard drives and the cable to save all my stuff that required a lot of hard work like oblivion.. 100% viva pinata and all my mass effect saves, cant we save our stuff to a usb stick yet like the ps3 ? am i even on subject..

As far as I know, you cannot buy a transfer cable from Microsoft. They are really stingy about this.

If you want to buy a cable via Ebay, make sure it's the official one. Also, make sure that the install disc is included. Alternatively, you can check a thread on Neogaf where people are passing on transfer cables http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33572... . I also have one lying around, so depending on where you live I could send it to you.

The problem with this option is that some games don't allow game saves to be transferred to the memory card (e.g. Fable 2, Forza 3). So this is definitely not the way to go.

Save games do not transfer when you recover your gamertag.

Yes, this shouldn't be a problem. Just go to your download history that is tied to your profile and there you will find the list with all stuff you've downloaded.

thanks for the reply Graafke. I'm in Germany, I'd gladly pay the shipping costs if you're near by (and send it back to you), it's very kind of you to offer. Otherwise, i'll try my luck with a memory card. Not that many games i'll get too worked up about not getting my saves. Is there a list?

Cool man thanks, but the guy who sold me the HDD actually agreed to lend me his cable, after I told him I was going to give him negative feedback. So it turned out quite nicely in the end. He's also in germany so it will be fast. Thanks once again for offering.

Oh, and by the way it's really ridiculous, as if they are not charging enough for these drives, 120GB gets you a 107GB HDD! WTF, that's like 10% less!

13 gig is for patches and backwards comp to my knowlegge, think of us with our 13 gig hdd...

yeah. but overall this hdd thing is a big FAIL from MS. Basically if people want bigger drives on their 360s is because they want to put more stuff there, stuff that they would probably be buying from them!!! Having such expensive drives, they are castrating their own sales. Me and a lot of friends were hesitant for months on buying the bigger drive because of the high price, otherwise would have done sooner. Heck i just did it because my girl was trying to buy some songs for LIPS and we didn't have the space!! Point is, probably lots of people out there not buying their girls songs for LIPS because they don't own bigger drives. A bit hyperbolic i know, but you get my point.

Oh i know exactly what you mean, specially as i can buy a 500gig hdd for the ps3 for about 60 notes.. but im not going to turn this into a pissing contest lol, but its the same as the usb wifi adapter, rip off

Is there anyway i can get a dongle so my 360 pad works on ps3 ?
