Square Enix has confirmed this afternoon that Final Fantasy XIII will appear at E3 this year.

“There’s going to be more things happening for XIII at E3,” said a rep. “That’s all I can say at the moment. And throughout the year there’s more things planned as well, which should shed more light in the release timings.”

The news comes after a story saying FF Versus XIII had been put on hold to assist in the development of FFXIII was proven to be incorrect.

Square Enix has confirmed that yesterday’s story claiming Final Fantasy Versus XIII was on hold is “completely wrong”.

“Yes, It’s false,” the firm said. “It’s a poor translation. They’re both still in development, full steam ahead and continuing as originally scheduled.”

The story originally came from a translation from the latest issue of Famitsu. Square reckons someone somewhere’s got their wires properly crossed.

“We checked with our office this morning and they said it was completely wrong,” the spokesperson continued. “They said it’s not true. Basically, in the interview, he said that they are partially helping the development of XIII… As they are scheduled, XIII is the lead game, so it’ll be arriving first, so development on Versus is following at a later schedule, and as people are busy on different parts of the development they become free and when they’re needed.

“It’s definitely not on hold. It’s strange that those sources didn’t get the gist of this completely.”

The company’s issued an official statement on the matter.

“Reports that development for Final Fantasy Versus XIII is on hold are false,” the note reads.

“The truth of the situation is that when free, some staff from the Versus team have been helping with the XIII team on development of Final Fantasy XIII. Development for both titles is continuing as originally scheduled.”
