Platinum. Top 16%.. woulda been high 50's in season 1. Solidly above average and you'll rank up if you keep playing.

I miss seeing MMR in-game. It made it a little easier to size people up. I knew to say a prayer when I saw a rank 65 Genji.

I still haven't calibrated but I'm not concerned with my starting position. I'll probably play a few hundred matches this season, since it's longer than season 1. That's a lot of time for my position to shift in one direction or the other. Half the fun (for me) is the challenge of climbing ranks after placement.

People are treating diamond (3000) like 60 last season.. which also sits right at the top 10% margin. It's funny.. there's a big bump in the leaderboard there, just like at 60 last season. Seems like people are hitting diamond and then taking a break :D

Haven't finished my placements yet, but i hope i manage at least the 6/4 win ratio i got in season 1 :P

Just finished.. 2984.. better than I expected. I thought I'd spend the season fighting to get to Diamond but it's right in my sights. I was forced out of my element in my final game and picked Zen. What a fortunate turn of events. I spent most of that match on fire. Zen is still awesome.

I may wind up playing him a lot more.

Yeah, Zenyatta is supposed to be top tier at the moment.

I finished my placements yesterday, got 2400, so hopefully i'll get up to platinum fairly fast.

McCree's ult doesn't bother me so much.. it's slow anyway. Soldier's ultimate can be a little ridiculous.

McCree is never a problem in my skill bracket. People are too shit at aiming for him to be any real danger :P

How does the point system for ranked work by the by? I played one game and won, got 34 points. Played another and lost, but didn't get any points deducted. Wut?

You earned ranked points.. that's not related to your skill rating. That's just currency for golden guns.

In your profile.. it can definitely go down. They should display it in-match somewhere. But I think this is the third time I've complained about that. What's with the like "XX/6000" thing with the comp. points anyway? Is there a cap on how many points you can earn a season?

The scoring system seems retarded. A win nets me 34 points but the loss pushed me back to 2395 points. How am i supposed to ever make any progress if they remove more for a loss than you get for a win? If i play with people in my skill bracket i'm gonna end up at about 50% win/loss, so wtf blizzard?

Or am i expected to play until i git gud in quickplay to then prove to blizzard that i can play in competitive? Like, fuck that. Why should i ever play competitive when it's 90% likely that i will only fall in rank?

It weighs your individual performance. You can gain more than you lose on average if you play consistently well.

And playing consistently well basically means filling your "fire" meter. Medals aren't important. Score per minute etc. is.

Not so much individual then, as most all characters rely on other characters to do their job, so that you can do yours :P

Doesn't feel like a very appealing way of handling ranking. Luckily i'm at the high end of the gold tier, so i can afford to take a few more losses without worrying, but to me this is a real incetive killer. It feels like i'm being punished very harshly, for something that isn't entirely my fault (not saying i'm amazing at all, but some times you just have those teams where nobody knows wtf they are doing at all. I'm sure you can relate). Not to menton you are like a bajillion more times to be on fire in the games that swing your way to begin with.

Just seems like a system that wil unduly punish you for ending up on a shit team, unless you are godlike and can solo the entire other team. And i'm nowhere near that good.

I imagine it's based on the same algorithm they use for placement. I dunno.. I think it's pretty fair. You have to be able to de-rank or the ladder being tied to "skill rating" would be kinda pointless. In S1 I moved ten ranks. That's like moving 1000 ranks this season. You can do it.

They tried to make it more appealing by making "gold" equivalent to the 40s ranks last season :P

Losing ranks is discouraging but it comes with the territory I think.

Ofc you need to be able to rank down and that in itself doesnt acare me as such, im just wondering what kind of percentage of wins you need to have in order to increase rank. Assuming that i dont spend every single match on fire from start to end, cause i wont :P

Well I progressed quite a bit last season with an overall win rate of 54.3%.. but I try every game :D

I think the format for assault maps still needs some tweaking. Draws seem kinda unnecessary to me. Matches that end in the same number of points can just be decided by time. I think rank may benefit from some simple stopwatch rules.

I still enjoy it way more than Quickplay now.

Also, depending on how the individual performance is calculated, that might be a huge + for skilled players who can keep that up, and bad for lower skill players lile me who have a harder time with it. Just feels like unless it takes the general team and opposing teams performance in to account it could be very unfair.

I may have overstated the on fire thing.. I just find that's one of the only indicators of performance.

It's that whole poorly flow of information that I'm always talking about. That doesn't help anybody really.

And it depends how it's all weighted I guess. That stuff isn't totally transparent so I don't know. Maybe as skill rating scales individual performance is weighed even more heavily. Some of that's a mystery to me.

I played the early alpha of Paladins and while it was fun, i'm having a lot more fun with OW. Though maybe more content in paladins makes it more fun now.

I'd like to try it again, but I didn't really love the other test.

It's NOT the FPS I thought Hi-Rez was going to make. I really thought they were going to do some kind of 5v5 tactical combat thing. Yeaaaa... nope.

Way different games but regardless I'm inclined to agree with that.
