Pretty underwhelming presentation, I am sick of all these remakes... And Spiderman 2 rly wow such a surprise :D

Even thou I know GoW Ragnarok is going to be a fun game it looks like a big DLC not a sequel. GoW was trully impressive on PS4 I didn't believe my eyes that such a weak machine can run that. And Ragnarok looks the same only in higher res and stable 60fps this time around nothing ground braking.

Only thing new is that Square Enix game which looks OK.

I miss the old Sony days PS1/PS2 era was the best, so many amazing games.

Sony teasing people by putting the Uncharted games on PC but not Bloodborne.

Hmm, not too impressed to be honest. Spiderman 2 and GoW R are probably both being released on the PS4. GoW honestly looks very much the same as what we saw on the PS4, somewhat better visuals. I think for anyone who doesn't know these games they would probably think it was the same game, not two different games from two completely different generations. GT7 kinda the same. I wasn't overly impressed by any of the visuals in this showcase. I'll be happy to play the games when they come though.

If it's not here, it means we don't. For now at least. Sorry.

Exactly. 100%. We're almost a year deep into these things now, and all they have to sing about is a remake of a game from two gens ago, and Ratchet and Clank. It's fucking dire to say the least. If someone thinks I'm just moaning for the sake of it, go and have a look at the PS2 launch list of games in the UK and EU. There's 30 of them. Yes, 30 launch games, all built for that specific generation of hardware. To think I wasn't even a big fan of the launch, partly due to me owning Japanese imports of several of the big titles already, so SSX had to suffice. A snowboarding game. I wasn't even into snowboarding, but its concept was so unique and new, and the game was ridiculously fun and original. What do we get these days? Here, have Alan Wake! You remember Alan Wake? You know, that game from 10 years ago people loved. Here's a remaster for you because we know you're all starved of interesting games to play on our brand spanking new next gen system you spunked half a grand on. This is why Sony skipped E3? What else? A couple of remakes that aren't even off the ground level yet, so a CGI trailer will have to do, and some cross gen games that are possible on your PS4. The more this gen goes on, the more its obvious it should have been delayed.

I mean, the Pandemic still exists guys let's relax. Had it not been around, we would have probably already had HFW, Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo.

Also, comparing the PS2 era games to PS5 is a bit weird seeing that the scope and scale of games is SIGNIFICANTLY larger than back in the PS2 era.

Also, the PS2 launch was terrible in terms of games and nothing interesting came out before Onimusha or GT3, which were both released long after the Japanese launch (even in Europe it took months and months to have games that were worth the price of the hardware).

Did the pandemic influence decisions on what games were to be made? That's a poor excuse. Did it affect games that were in development? Sure. Still, a year into the generation and the lack of stuff actually shown as games in development that are made from the ground up for either system is ridiculous. But, hey, we can all pay that extra 10 quid for some ray tracing on top of the money we paid for a previous gen game. Imagine if devs charged for graphics options on PC titles. That's basically what Sony are doing here, but they can do no wrong, apparently.

And comparing the PS2 launch is not weird. I could have picked any of the previous gen consoles and made the same point. Games made for that system. Games made specifically for that hardware. Games that looked night and day compared to previous hardware and were only possible on the new one. What we're buying now is basically a hardware bump to play previous gen titles on until games catch up. It's a joke. Development cycles have hit a ceiling and are unsustainable.

Visual leaps between generations were much easier in the past, that's what people don't seem to get. You'll never have the same gap today as between a PS1 and a PS2 or between a PS2 and a PS3 (but mainly because of console players discovered HD for the latter - I don't remember being impressed by any PS3 launch titles at the time personally).

Now when it comes to the idea that Covid is a poor excuse, don't forget that some of the games you seem to find unworthy may have been released way sooner if it weren't for the pandemic. Cross-gen titles were already a thing back in the days, so I don't get how people can still act surprised. Now true, console exclusives were not, but it's not like Ridge Racer V, Street Fighter Ex3,  Eternal Ring, Tekken Tag Tournament or Fantavision were especially great on PS2. And don't even get me started with the PS3, Resistance wasn't particularly impressive technically and the other games were average at best, at least in my book. That's why I never bought those systems on day one at the time. What about PS4 and Knack? Should we talk about it? It was specifically designed for PS4 but I don't remember people being especially happy about the game (after completing it, I can say it was much more fun than I had expected though). Killzone Shadow Fall was also criticized a lot.

Now I see where you're coming from and what you're getting at, but the thing is, today you can't expect the big publishers to go out on a limb with brand new franchises or bold game designs with new ideas the first year, even less so when there is so much money at stake. Games take more time to be developed, they cost more and more so what more could we expect from the first year of the new consoles? Personally I can't complain about the exclusives Sony released this past year, but I am indeed disappointed that we had to wait almost a year to see new games developed by Microsoft (and 2 sequels...).

I think that considering the overall context, despite the very fact that for the first time, very few games make me tick this end of year (fingers crossed for Dying Light 2 but that's about it), I don't feel cheated by the new consoles. Sure, it has made it easier on those who haven't bought them yet, but ad the owner of both systems, I've had a great time so far.

Spider-man 2 is PS5 only, and I expect it to look much better than MIles Morales. The most impressive game visually at the showcase aside from that was Forespoken...Thanks for these
