SOPA/PIPA. Anyone else worried about these bills?

The title says it all really, is anyone else worried about these two bills getting through?

SOPA seems like the basis for giving corporations the keys to internet censorship in the USA and PIPA seem to set up a group of US cyber police to watch the rest of the worlds "nefarious" goings on regarding sharing content legally or illegally, again with content rights holders with the reins.

The USA produces a heck of a lot of internet content granted but who appointed them rulers of the internet? What happened to it being free and neutral and ownerless?

As a Brit I can simply state that it does worry me all the way across the Atlantic as our country seems to bend over to whatever pressure the US administration exerts over here. The US puts this into effect and we will most likely follow up with a tougher DEA version.

Sure this is worrying, but it's hardly surprising, it's not like governments have started to strip away our freedoms just now. This is just taking it one step further, maybe just to test the waters how far they can get.

If there is no huge public outcry the senate will definitely pass that bill. And then Obama Jesus will say some heartwarming bullshit and sign it anyway, just like he did on new years eve with the NDAA bill that allows for indefinite detention of American citizens. Nobody gave a fuck about that.

Contact your representatives and senators directly. Wikipedia will help you find the proper links. It only takes a few moments to provide additional traction. I do believe there's a very good chance that this won't go anywhere in its current form, but today is the day to provide pressure.

It(SOPA) was shot down in the house wasn't it? It seems like the internet is the last bastion for any kind freedom anymore, so that makes this a big deal. If they(governments) can figure a way to get their claws on it, they'll do it. Don't worry though, they are doing it for our protection. Trade your freedoms for safety...
