I don't see why you couldn't have both. Yes you could still have the progression of weapons by making better ones but it feels a little disjointed to me when every item you find will be be as strong as the day as it was made, forever.

You could even weave it into the crafting system... =(

It is indeed an odd choice. But then they've made quite a lot of them in regards to skyrim so far. Seems they're doing an oblivion 2.0...where depth was replaced by accessibility. I'm not fond of that approach to making games...certainly not RPG's.

man i cant wait, cant see anything touching this for my GOTY this year.
Luckily for us, Bethesda's new Creation engine has taken old hardware, pushed it to previously unimagined limits and created a game no one could have foreseen on Xbox 360 - certainly not in the days when Oblivion felt like a bold and dazzling new era.

Conservative estimates suggest there'll be upwards of 300 hours of gaming ahead for those jumping into Skyrim, so it's only fitting we take the time to consider the land you'll be spending the next six months exploring.

Five years on and Cyrodiil is still one of the best worlds in gaming. From cities to hamlets, marshland to open plains, secret forests to snow-capped mountains, it packed hundreds of hours' worth of new sights into one sprawling, streaming environment. And, frankly, it pales next to Skyrim.

The game, set in Tamriel's titular northern province, is considerably smaller than both Cyrodiil and Morrowind, but what we've lost in acreage we're seeing balanced out in rich detail. Naturally there are plenty of craggy peaks to scale (in a nice touch the weather grows worse the higher you climb - you'll be trudging through full-on blizzards at the highest points) but variation comes in the form of parched plains, weathered towns and packed, dense forests.

There's no one-for-one Imperial City equivalent. Skyrim instead has five major hubs dotted about its landscape: central city Whiterun, which has an unfortunate witch problem; wealthy northern stop-off Winterhold; the port of Solitude; the old capital Windhelm, near the border to Morrowind; and Markath Side to the far west of the map, where people study the art of the Voice.

Plenty of other towns and smaller settlements prevent the land from being too barren: in all likelihood, most people won't manage to see everything the game has to offer.
rest.

Which is a real shame, I did agree with some of the streamlining that Oblivion brought to the series (my arrows actually hitting depending on whether or not I manage to aim it correctly instead of dice rolls being my main one) but the removal of something which I don't think hindered the game at all and as you said, added depth to the game, just doesn't sit with me...

A prefered option would be to include both the smithing and the degredation systems into the gameplay, have it so if your weapon breaks it breaks into the component pieces you need to smith it in the first place minus say one piece and then have them smith it back together using the crafting system and have to smith a new replacement part for the piece that broke.

You can't really say that when Bethesda make a new engine for it... It's as much a transition from Oblivion as Morrowind was to Daggerfall.

Not to mention, what the fuck welse would it be? OFC it's Oblivion 2.0! It's the TES concept, with a new story and upgraded and tweaked. What were you expecting? A kart racer?

you do know i was saying it was oblivion 2.0 in regards to the over simplification of things, where "depth was replaced by accessibility", not in the games premis, technology, gameplay or genre? right?

There's a blanace of accessibility and complexity, but to me it seems like skyri is doing a better job of it than Oblivion. Again, it's not Fallout or Baldur's Gate, but TES never was.

i dunno, no spell crafting, single peice armour, no weapon degredation, on top of everything from oblivion like the simplified leveling system, or enemies that level with you...dont see how that is doing anything better tbh, if anything, it's doing things worse. they're taking the "dumb it down so more people buy it" mass effect approach. just not a fan personally, if you are, more power to you.

We do on the other hand have crafting for weapons and armor now, added diversity to spells what with combining two spells in to one and as i understood it the monster leveling system is tweaked to not be as noticeable or intrusive as it was in Oblivion.

i wouldnt consider the twin trigger spell combining to be even remotely decent or deep enough to compete with genuine spell crafting. it just seems like a bioshock plasmid like way to make spells accessible (kinda like how bioshock was a simple, dumbed down version of systemshock i guess) i mean, what's simpler then pulling 2 triggers...sadly that removes the depth that was there in the first place. i dunno, i'm just not feeling a lot of the changes they've made. just like dragon age 2, just like mass effect 2/3. kinda depressing

This game will still be the best and deepest rpg out there.
