i'd honestly be happy with that tbh since i cant see any single player experience ever coming close to what U2 achieved. hell, i play the first MGS on a yearly basis, and U2 will be another i'll be doing that with, it's a seriously impressive game. and one that i want to experience again and again.

Almost finished it. I'm in Shambala part, just after fighting those semi-monkeys blue dudes and before figthing another wave of enemies. At this point this game is just tiresome, I just want to finish it so I can sell it. It's just too much of shooting, I'm sick and tired of it. Unless the ending will blow me away U1 is in my opinion better game (minus graphics of course). Better pace, better mix of shooting/puzzles. Verdict: a bit overhyped, but good game. Deserving 9 and 10 all over the place? Hm, maybe. Hopefully the ending will deliever.

Raggnarok, the ending is very well done. The banter is pretty clever and dare i say charming.

I wouldn't say the game was nearly as OMG best game EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! as Korndog always goes on about, but I do think it was a GOTY for sure.

I think that is the first time I ever heard someone say they liked the first game more. But I do think the shooting part of the game still needs a lot of work to be as good as all the other parts, but it doesn't kill the fun by any means.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of new maps they come out with for the survival game types.

Yeah mechanically UC2 is pretty frustrating if you have it in you to experiment with that stuff. Its bucket-of-men approach to encounters and limited enemy types start to grate after a while, and that's still the most interactive and player-dependant part of the game. The rest is you just pushing a stick forward to have animations play out, essentially.

It comes down to what type of gamer you are. Me and my blog colleague/mate Dominic are 100% divided on the subject of these really authored games, and that envelops Call of Duty and to an extent even Half Life 2 aswell. The thing that bums me out the most with Uncharted 2 is how little it actually asks of the player, whereas Dominic just doesn't view it like that at all. For him, and presumably to everyone who loves the game to bits, it's simply an interactive piece of entertainment where the mechanics are more of a blunt and safe way of driving the spectacle forward.

I think it's interesting how different people/players experience a thing like this in fundamentally different ways. Regardless of the linearity of Uncharted 2, which I have a reasonable easy time swallowing, the fact that crazy things keep happening as part of "visual narrative" during my interaction as opposed to presenting real obstacles that rely on my participation, almost makes me feel claustrophobic. As if I'm "trapped" in that space where I currently exist in the game world.

I had a similar feeling in COD4, almost entirely redeemed by MW2's much less visible ways of funneling the player along, but in Uncharted - being a third person action game - the interaction with the game world becomes more specific, and so the ways it locks you into the experience become much more visibly intrusive. It's no longer that YOU are in a situation where things happen to YOU, you can see your avatar on the screen and the way the action essentially bends around him.

Someone made the connection to point and click adventure games and how that genre envelops the player in a similar way, awaiting your interaction before moving forward. I think that's an interesting comparison, but the interaction is so different. A scenario in Uncharted 2 plays out like this:

You're at point A, spot point B and move in that direction. Your objective is clear and your means of reaching your objective are also. As you move, thing X happens, but points A and B remain unaffected. Effectively, thing X is little more than visual noise to spice up an otherwise linear path between A and B. To a lot of people this equals excitement, it equals "just like an action movie!", but if you're expecting gameplay elements from a game this simply won't feel very fulfilling.

So it boils down to a big canvas of that example woven together, broken up by what's essentially "arena" type scenarios where baddies keep pouring in. If the staying sensation after the game is done is one of feeling unfulfilled, then I think you're simply the type of gamer that wants gamey bits from your games.

And just to emphasise, I DO NOT feel that what Uncharted 2 does is WRONG or even FLAWED. I can argue FOR pretty much all of its design decisions except enemy variety and subsequently its tendency to linger on the bucket-of-men bits that never really evolve beyond headshot orgies. I do think there is a schism between types of players here though, and it is for once very easy to see just in what core ways this will appeal to one category and leave the other feeling a bit bewildered and lukewarm.

I think it speaks volumes that whichever you gravitate towards, the game is plainly a beast of an accomplishment. Naughty Dog are pretty scary.

Is that not 99% of games?

Dude saying it like that is like saying racing games are crap because all you do is travel from A to B with nothing but "noise" happening inbetween.

There is a place and a time for all types of games simon, there is a time for hack n slashers there is a time shooters and a time for JRPGs and there is a time for "action" games where you pretty much slap the thigh and ride the wave.

Yep, I guess I'm that guy and I'm who says it! Spot on!
Posted by ManThatYouFear

Nope. There is a certain "strain" of this type of experience. Call of Duty 4 is probably the most obvious one, with Half Life sort of acting as a catalyst for this sub-category of extremely authored games. There are different degrees to which these games "wrap around you" even within that category, but it's fairly easy to spot which ones go for this type of thing in the first place.

No. A racing game is 100% player dependant. In fact, a racing game is possibly the very exact opposite of what I am describing here.

Let me cut and paste...

Different strokes, blokes and all that.

I get that you're prolly shooting forth from your chair in the notion that Uncharted 2 needs defending from my arguments, but it doesn't.

Well said SimonM7. Uncharted 2 is more of an Experience. Guy sit and waits for you to sneak up behind him, once he's taken out another guy walks through the door. Highly scripted and still awesome for it. It's the difference between COD and HALO. Both great for different reasons...

I re-purchased this game yesterday because of the MPs new patch.

The reason why I traded it in before was because it would take alot of time to find a game (stupid matchmaking system) and when you wanted to kill someone it would take an entire clip to do so, if your aim was on the enemy all the time.

But now with the 1.05 patch I am loving the game. Finding matches are very quick (most of the time) and my personal fix they did is the fact they have increased the weapons damage were you can kill the enemy with a few shots very quick so it makes the gunplay faster.
So after I checked the forums of what the patch did I decided to re-purchase the game and now I am loving the MP side of the game.

I dont like modern realistic shooters, but considering Uncharted is pretty much like Tomb Raider were it is modern but going to exotic ancient temples, ruins...etc. it makes up for it for sure. I do wish it was more sci-fi though like Stargate Atlantis, or old setting like The Mummy :)

Ah well.

One thing that kinds of bums me out is that when playing MP, the game is very quite. There arent any ambience sounds around it. The only sound effect you hear is bullets, grenades going off, running on water or the characters saying random quotes.
I do wish they added custom XMB music, would like to listen to ambient Uncharted music to have some atmosphere going on. But its nothing special just a special wish.

Another wish is that I want more assault rifle models. Its like the devs loves the AK alot but hate the M4 or other similair weapons. I want more weapons like G36C or P90...etc. more military based. Adding one M4 in each map is annoying.

Well, I'll be buying Uncharted 1 as soon as I'm done with Mass Effect (because Yakuza is just around the corner--another 30+hrs game). Then I want to go through this game, I played the demo and it was awesome.

Siege Expansion DLC revealed!
Naughty Dog has unveiled its latest DLC for Uncharted 2, entitled the Siege Expansion.

The latest batch of DLC is to be released on April 22 and will be available to download for £4.79.

The content includes a new co-operative game, six character skins, two new maps, as well as 11 new trophies.

The siege co-op game, which supports two to three players, can be played on nine multiplayer maps, including brand new maps 'The Museum' and 'The Highrise'.

The title sees players team up to conquer and defend a number of capture points in ten rounds against progressively tougher enemies.

I haven't played uncharted 2 for a long time as, like you, I didn't like the MP much at all. But seeing as they improved the matchmaking time and improved the weapon damage (a hug gripe of mine), i can see MP being a LOT more fun now.

A also really like the sound of the new co-op game mode Siege, sounds just like an uncharted version of horde mode, aka, awesome!

Looks like I'll be going out to buy this game as well. Can't wait to see the fixes in action

My problem with MP in the first time was the weapon damage, now that they fixed it to make it less bullets kill, its much more fun now IMO.
They also fixed the matchmaking (I hate matchmaking in general) to be a bit faster than before, but sometimes you got to wait a bit long.

Co-op is fun for sure, you gain XP more and faster there than regular MP.

Its definitely a fun game, I sstill play it from time to time.
