As you've all prolly heard by now, Megaman 9 is coming out. So what is it? A dreadful 3D goo-fest for Playstation 3? Another in the line of Zeroman Advent XZ Starforce Hyper Stuff DS games? Nah. It's really, utterly, Megaman 9.

It's coming out for WiiWare (WOO!) and looks every single bit like Megaman 1-6 did for the NES. The bosses sound like NES Megaman bosses should (including the rather discomfortingly named "Plug Man", joining Wood Man in not-so-subtle sexual innuendo) and the whole thing plays like Megaman did.

There are scans around for those keen-eyed googlers among you, but apart from some more advanced sprite handling, it really looks just like it did back when it looked its best. Personally I think it's a mind bogglingly awesome idea, and I'm frankly surprised that it's being made officially.

There's also a boatload of RPGs coming for Wii and DS. Wii game Arc Rise Fantasia caught my eye, and so did the surprisingly naff looking Fire Emblem remake for the DS which is bound to be awesome regardless. Online play and everything should make it a KEEPAH.

There's also Fragile which is looking increasingly interesting in proportion to its likelyhood of being a pile of tosh, sadly. Hopefully it turns out brill though. On top of all this the hard-to-miss Castlevania Judgement which is either Smash Brotheresque, blatant fanservice - ie good - or a serious attempt at a fighting game and absolute shite. I'm in absolute shite mode for now.

Speaking of Smash Brothers, Brawl was released last week here in europe (finally!) and it's the best Sonic game in ages. If you squint and sit far away from the telly, you can pretend that Wario is Robotnik and there's actual genuine bliss.

Also it's a very cool game which I'll be happy to play with whoever else got it.

Um. Yep.

Yeah. It's funny, I remember using the Megaman sprite as an example of old graphics being able to look cool in a way new graphics can't, even while simulating old graphics. People didn't agree with me - they rarely do - but here comes Megaman 9. :O

And just generally.. man.. a Wii.. it's a good thing. WiiWare itself is a fucking awesome service. Potentially a much, much, much more attractive thing than PSN and XBLA will ever be, simply because of where it's placed technology wise in terms of what people can do for what kind of money and what tools they have to work with. Frontier's Lostwinds is amazing in its simplicity, and beautiful. It even has a cliffhanger of sorts, inviting sequels already.

If someone says bad things about those graphics he/she probably wont even care about the original Megaman games then or I am just insane for wanting this. I have dreamed about something like this... 8-bit graphics... so awesome.

Btw do you know if the musics are NES quality too? That would be even more awesome.

Newer MMX games with 3D graphics newer were as cool looking as those SNES games either.

I am already spending too many money for my games and if I would get Wii... there is so many games I would want for that aargh.

True, money and time are resources I am in dire need of aswell. I've started keeping games wrapped and only playing a maximum of two completely different games at the same time - and I play them when I absolutely WANT to, not because they just came out or are supposedly "so good you mustn't wait!!".

But anyhow, yes, MM9 music will be NES quality aswell (lord knows if they can make music as good as MM2 and MM3 today though) so the whole production is really going out of its way to make it a genuine sequel to the *real* Megaman. Scans suggest there'll be some more advanced looking uses for sprites, akin to Gunstar Heroes' bosses and stuff, but it's all 8 bit resolution and the design fits RIGHT in.

Great! There is enough of that orchestral music already. If I would ever make game it would have same kind of music as NES Megaman games has :p

Running animation is fun in old Megamans too. It has that okay now we go and smash these robot masters feel. I don't know how they did it but it's perfect. Okay the musics helps with this too but still.

Definitely. And it has the best "I'm hit!" sprite EVER. No other game has captured that "GAH, HOW FREAKING ANNOYING TO BE SHOT IN THE FACE!" look the way Megaman did.

heheh yeah it's awesome too.

I can't wait to see video about this but I am not going to watch much of it. I don't want to ruin this game by watching too much. That is what I always do with games that I am really waiting.

Same here. Which is ironic beacause surprise is so much a key to my enjoyment in games. Facing a boss I didn't expect, reaching a level I know nothing about.

It's why I've been preparing to get off the "information highway" in regards to games all together, but that does introduce the risk of ending up with seriously shoddy games I suppose.

I know but in the end it's much better. Like in Castlevania games it's part of the fun to hear the new music in the area too. I didn't listen any music from previous two games and it add nice bonus for the game. Not just to see new enemies (I think there was those too :p), bosses, places but also to hear new music.

Some trailers seems to like to show like every level and bosses there is in the game. Good thing that there is lots of demos for console games too. That should drop off some bad purchases.

Look'n good!

Mega Man 9's graphics are fueled by nostalgia. I can't believe anyone would (and they have) argue that they somehow stand to enhance the gameplay.. like you couldn't make a game just as simple or tough as the NES Mega Man games without recycling 20 year old sprites. They could have at least made it widescreen, they're even using NES-quality music..

I don't think it's that bad idea. I love the music already heheh much better than some orchestral thing. Rumour is that it costs around 10$. Not too bad.

This is better looking and sounding than any 3D Megaman I have ever played. Nostalgia or not I like it.

First, Capcom has confirmed to IGN that Mega Man 1 and 2 will be coming to the Virtual Console soon. And second, Mega Man 9 will also release for Xbox Live and PlayStation Network respectively. No, it's not a WiiWare exclusive, but nevertheless, it's going to make an excellent addition to the libraries of all three consoles.
:O I hope there isn't any filters to "enhance" the picture on 360... or if there is I want to be able to turn it off.

Hmm news was a bit more about other consoles than Wii but there is MM1-2 coming to VC too and other info about MM9.

Playing MM9 with a 360 pad already defeats the purpose of having it BE an old Megaman game I reckon. Almost half the point of having it on the Wii is holding the Wiimote sideways and having it be a NES pad.
