Its a small one yet, but definitely shows even more enhancements in character models than before and insane action.

While I play Yakuza 2 and have a wet-dream of Yakuza 3 and Kenzan to reach our shores, Sega is at it again, announcing Y4 and teasing the west with their immersive excellence. damn I hope they bring all this to worldwide soon:

Hard to feel any hype over than when there are 2 games in the franchise that haven't made it out of Japan yet tbh. Besides, i can only remember disappointment when i think of the videos i've seen of Yakuza 3 :P

You can't say hype can not be there for the latest one, 3rd part, boasts hell-load of features, an insane number of side games, really stunning visuals, great fighting mechanics(and lots of variations on matches from tags to rings to arenas to open-ended) and a story so immersive that it makes you eat and shit there on the spot.

Whereas if you think disappointment was there, then either you are alone in thinking so, or you haven't seen a video at all for Y3 heehee for even Y2 makes your day.
Just looky here, it'll make your jaws drop for this video only features fighting mechanics, and only a part of them, still the NPCs onscreen as well as the ultra-beautiful and authentic recreation of Japanese cities, all make-up for something west has not been spared with:

My biggest beef with it is that it looks just like the first game. Even the hud looks the same. Except for the graphical face lift and new story there seems to be little done to improve the game. I especially think the animations look stiff as hell. Yakuza 1 was great, Yakuza 2 i played but didn't finish and i have to say that i don't think it had the same impact, and with 3 i must say that the novelty value has completely worn off.

It's obvious that your Yakuza-boner is way too severe for you to consider these flaws, but if you really just want more of the same then it should be great. Personally feel that when the fourth game in the series plays just like the first, it's time to start shaking things up.

it's honestly one of, if not the ONLY franchise from sega i actually care about. we only have outselves to blame tho, the first 2 didnt exactly do great over in the west.

Yeah, only franchise on Sega worth talking about..........besides Shenmue of course (one can hope).

I didn't own a PS2, so I guess I should be blamed too? But you know, how much can subtitles cost? How can adding subtitles and opening up the market for millions and millions of possible customers not be profitable?

And then again, Sega is to blame too. I barely saw any marketing behind these games, and the second one was more of "ah, ok whatever, just release", when the game was what, 2 years old? At the end of the PS2's life? With no advertising? With no voice-overs? Come on. So they *somewhat* tried with Yakuza, but for Yakuza 2 is a "ok wing it" attitude.

Yeah, came in to echo the same thing. Sadly, despite a huge marketing push for the first Yakuza, hiring "big name" actors for all the roles, then giving it another shot with an only barely localized Yakuza 2, there just hasn't been a good enough response to it.

I'm really saddened by this because I think Yakuza is a wonderful franchise, but Sega aren't the naive company they used to be who constantly developed and published titles that consistently tanked. The critical reception and the feedback on various forums just further cements the fact that it just didn't gel with most people, and I stand by my initial reasoning that it was wrongly pigeonholed as either a "japanese GTA" which it's not, or "like Shenmue", which it's not and in addition even put loads of Sega fans on the defensive.

There's no word yet on europe, and Shenmue 2 made it out here so there's a tiny shred of a chance still. I will report back if I hear anything.

It's such a shame really. This is downright one of the best series ever. It's a shame that games like these don't get the support they need.
