GSY Review PS5 Xbox Series X PC

Many people were a bit worried when the return of Alone in the Dark was originally announced but it turns out the game is not bad at all, though clearly not as good as the RE series as you can imagine. Exploration and puzzles are quite engaging, atmosphere is also pretty good, but the game is a bit let down by its enemies, that are neither scary or hard to beat in normal mode. Gunplay is actually OK but it lacks feedback when hitting the monsters with bullets or melee weapons. The worst part of combat is the final boss, which made us terribly frustrated mainly because of the small arena where it takes place and the number of additional enemies it throws at you. When gunfights are not your strong suit, you don't want to end on one that leave a very bad impression. That aside, we had a pretty good time with Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood, but maybe the price tag is a bit too high.

If you're tired of excited YouTubers (or journalists) who can't produce any content without having to speak like maniacs, chances are you're not going to like the latest Alone in the Dark trailer which came out today. We're still hopeful the game will turn out to be a nice surprise as the demo, though limited in terms of gameplay, was quite atmopsheric. That said, graphics and gameplay do not seem to show high production value here.

Announced last year during Gamescom, Alone in the Dark won't make us wait for too long as the game will be available on October 25 2023 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. THQ Nordic released a spotlight video showing some gameplay footage and also announced that a demo can now be downloaded to try a very short prologue. The game runs on Unreal Engine 4 but it seems to do it well enough and it bodes well in terms of atmosphere. Like we said, the demo is very short, and it's clearly not that interesting in terms of gameplay mechanics, but it has made us very curious to play the final game. Two graphics modes are available on consoles and we're showing you both in the video we recorded this morning.
