Even though most people want to know what tracks are going to be in Forza Motorsport 5, Microsoft thinks it's somehow more interesting to reveal new cars instead. Fans of the Skyline / Lancer Evolution will probably be happy, at least...
Update: Next gen being apparently synonymous with YouTube videos only, no direct feed footage of Forza 5 on GSY but instead, 4 new images!!!

Looks gorgeous but I'd much rather see more actual gameplay. One of the games that has me seriously tempted to get both systems at launch as its the only top quality racer on the horizon. But I will also have gt6 to tide me over a little bit even if no next gen purdyness...

shows why these next gen racers just aren't impressing me much. That just ain't a big enough jump for me.

Seeing what GT6 is achieving or what forza horizon achieved on current gen hardware impresses me way more then what forza 5 and driveclub are doing on new tech.

We are approaching the uncanny valley pretty quick. I don't think you are going to see a big jump again, ever. Time to take a step back and appreciate things for what they are. For someone who grew up playing Rad Racer on the NES, and looking at videos like that one, it's not so hard to do. OR you can spend all of your time looking at that glass as half empty - up to you.

The first two track pictures have a photo-realistic touch. Can't wait what those guys will achieve in a few years on the One.

Looking forward, will play it tomorrow on Gamecitry Event in Vienna! woohoo!

[if I can get past 200 kids I guess]

Give me a break Korn, you're coming a unfinished game and *highly* compressed video to a youtube video of Forza 4.

As someone that has actually played Forza 4 for thousands of hours this is a gigantic leap from Forza 4.

Yes, that's the same perspective I take looking at games today too. To look back and what you once knew and imagined, and what you imagined we'd be playing back then today pales to what we actually now have in games. Even things like GTA V. Imagine seeing that back in the early 90's. I think the child version of me would explode.

Aside from resolution. It really isn't. Car poly count has increased, but at chase cam distance you don't even see it, same goes for their new shaders for paint work, or the higher res reflections. It just too small of a jump. Which is a shame because there was a time when it was racers that showed us what a console was capable of.

Also. Heavily compressed forza 5 YouTube footage compared to heavily compressed forza 4 YouTube footage. That's a pretty damn fair comparison.

Overall it might not appear to be much of a jump, but the devil is in the details. It is really all about detail now rather than broad sweeping and drastic strokes.

Looking at two different images through the same size pinhole doesn't somehow make it a fair comparison.

Which is all I'm saying. The jump just isn't very apparent anymore. You have to really look for the improvements. Even at an extended glance they could very much be the same game.

@ doc - because sadly it applies to next gen racers in general, not just forza. A genre that used to be a selling point of new hardware is barely even scraping by.kinda sucks. You either need to be easily impressed or had low expectations to begin with? I'm neither.

Actually, as someone who has enjoyed FM4 a lot, I would have mistaken this screens as FM4 shots, if there wasn't a fat FM5 watermark plastered onto them.

Maybe FM4 screens were more doctored than this ones....

I am still pretty sure that this game won't fail to impress me once I see it in motion.

I think both look good tbh.

Forza4 and Forza5.

5 Looks alot cleaner to me.

But i do wish they stopped showing pictures of cars that are not running in the game looking like that.

I just wanna' know, are you impressed by Gran Turismo 6? Because if yes, your comment is questionable. This is basically GT6 with better handling, a more "speedy" feeling and Next-Gen optics y'know

You'll enjoy GT6 "re-vamped" in two years in 1080p and then it's gonna be "the sh**"

But I like you Korn, at least you are consistent.

In the sense it's running on 7 year old hardware, yes, but in terms of next gen expectations? No.. Same goes for forza horizon...I said so ^ there. This and driveclub disappoint the hell out of me considering it's new tech throwing around ~ 8x the power. They honestly feel like current gen titles that switched to next gen platforms at a really late date...

Yeah, but look at racing games from 2005-2008. Look at the huge difference between DiRT 1 and 2, and the minimal differnece between 2 and 3.
Early next-gen games are just polished versions of top current-gen titles. In a few years games will look even better.

No doubt about it. End of next gen racers should be impressive. That future potential doesn't make these first tries impressive though. Knowing forza 7 and driveclub 3 are going to look great doesn't make forza 5 or driveclub 1 any less disappointing.

This is most likely the case, which is why I'm not upset that the games aren't supremely impressive. I'm surprised that there is a Forza lauch title AT ALL. But expecting launch titles, developed while the hardware and software development tools are in a constant state of flux, to show even a quarter of what a system is capable of is foolish. Of course these first titles aren't that impressive. They spent most of their time developing not knowing what specs they were developing for.

They are launch games, not surprising. The game still blows horizon OUT OF THE FUCKING WATER. Seriously, you should have at least used a Forza that didn't have to be scaled back to deal with an open world in your comparison.
I've played this game (PAX) and it looks fantastic. Is it jaw droppingly good? No. It's a racing game, it just looks sharper and cleaner and a whole lot more detailed. They aren't really doing anything especially "new" in terms of the visuals, it just all looks quite a bit better. I'm not sure we'll ever really see a racing game that excels beyond this level of visuals until maybe we see quality real time raytracing or an equivalent.
I've played the latest Forza games AND this on pretty big screens, and fuckin' A does the resolution make a huge difference alone. And seriously, the lighting, the cars all looks a lot better. Playing the game at PAX was pretty impressive. It wasn't as impressive as something like the UE4 Infiltrator demo, but that's because shooters have a lot more to do and more to work with, so that sort of game world has a lot further to go than cars. You shouldn't be disappointed, there's just not much more to do.
Also, if you're playing in chase, you aren't playing right! So who cares if you don't see the details then :3 Although, the lines are cleaner even then, trust me.
