Xbox 360

Epic and Microsoft drop the bomb and release the first gameplay video of Gears of War 2. Two minutes of extreme violence and fire, for what appears to be an explosive hyperbole of the first title. Visually, it looks stunning.

I doubt that this is pre-alpha with only like 5 months till release.
Yes it is pre-alpha mike capps has already stated this, and rofm2 is in pre-alpha also and it has around the same amount of time till release too.

This message is in "Boulet Time" (TM), If you still *really* want to see it, click here
This is my take on it graphically killzone2 beat GOW2 but only by a small margin. But where GOW2 completely out do killzone2 is in the gameplay department killzone2 A.I. look just as dumb as the first killzone and every video I have seen of killzone just look boreing.

I really suggest keeping KZ2 out of this thread lest it explode in a fiery ball of fan-boy rage again.

I just hope they don't try to make the MP better by beefing up the number of players too much. More isn't always better in this case; some games are better suited to fewer players with more intimate combat.

But if they figure out a way to still keep the Gears feeling and not have it turn into just a bigger clusterfuck, then all the power to them.
While I don't want them to mess with the core gameplay in the MP, I like them to improve quite a lot of things in the MP. There are some minor ones like glitches wich are still present and very annoying. While I know they rushed the MP, they'd better spend more time this time around.

A major MP issue was the rediculous lag. Whenever you're playing across atlantic games you could expect to have a latency to be in the 300-500ms range (don't quite me on that, but when you shot at the ground it sometimes took what felt like half a second to hit the ground). Hosting a game, while being somewhat decent, always ensured you a win.

Another issue is the party system: There is none. The online part is very simplistic and basic. I'm not saying they should put out something refined as Halo 3's, but allowing for groups of people partying up to play ranked matches is what I whish for the most.

Absolutely agree...except I do think they should at least strive to put something as refined as Halo 3's matchmaking and party system in there. All games with MP should.

Sorry bub, the visual high water mark is in Uncharted: Drakes Fortune's hands.

If you can mange to wrap you head around the idea that I never said it didn't look better than yay for you. It doesn't look THAT much better. It looks maybe 5% better than the first game. Maybe.

EDIT:

I was expecting better animations and a video that made me excited for the game. AS A GEARS FAN, that video did not impress me. They will have to a bit more than that to get me excited.
Sometimes I wonder if I was the only one who thought Uncharted as a downright ugly title. It was a pixelated mess with poor art direction and gameplay to match. People keep telling me its so great, but going off the demo, Id say its pretty much one of the ugliest PS3 titles to date. GT:Prologue and more importantly Ratchet and Clank are far better examples of graphics for the console and the generation as a whole. Uncharted was just rubbish.

This place has gotten almost as bad a NeoGAF. C'mon guys, you can do much better than this. Lighten up and stop bringing up games that have nothing to do with the game we're currently discussing. Your enjoyment of your favorite game/system isn't going to change if a different game/system does or doesn't look better than it. Who the hell cares? People are way too sensitive.

The problem is with the PS3 getting more and more quality titles, just as the Xbox 360 does, people are really trying to justify why they bought the system they chose. From my point of view, this is useless trolling, because someone who bought an PS3 or an X360 will not buy the other console just because there is a comparison video of the same game running on a different platform showing the + and - of each.

I'd like people to accept a game for what it is, no matter the platform. Isn't this all gaming is about? I feel some guys are acting like children, in french we used to say "my father is stronger than yours", that's kind of the same thing really. Which is sad, because some people actually get angry over insults and comparisons.

@Drew : I don't think GSY is getting as bad as NeoGAF. In fact, I don't even know why you think GAF is bad. When a website / community gets popular, just like GSY or GAF over the years, it's unfortunate but you WILL have close-minded people on board too that will do nothing but try to stir up some shit online. The mod team, myself and other staff members here at GSY insure everything stays respectful, and believe me people get banned when they don't respect our simple rules.

Again to everyone, Killzone 2 has NOTHING to do with GOW2. They are not on the same system, nor are they of the same genre (FPS versus 3rd person shooter). They do share some stuff, but if you bring up KZ2 in a GOW2 thread, you are either asking for trouble or plain ignorant of our rules. Please refrain doing so, and if you dare doing so, at least don't try to say which one if better, less flawed, etc.

I got caught up in all the "boulet time"-ing completely unfairly. I didn't say anything out of line, I didn't even compare it to another game!

Anyway, I feel I need to reiterate my points in the off chance that I was misunderstood.

I think this was a bad piece of gameplay to show off as the first thing we'd see from Gears 2. I'm glad that they'd show gameplay straight away, rather than just tease us constantly with trailers, but it just wasn't epic enough without some story context. I'm excited anyway, just because the original was so good, but I think if this was my introduction to the game series, I wouldn't see anything interesting but the graphics.

From a technical standpoint, yes there are improvements from the original, and it sure does look to be one of the greatest looking games ever made. However, (I think I must've been living in a dream world) but I did imagine that the game would look a little less like the original. I imagine it's because most sequels usually have a longer gap in between and run on different engines. Like Halo 1 -> 2. Still, the graphics in the original were so good they probably could've gotten away with just adding weapons, improving the frame-rate and making a new campaign.

I imagine I got boulet timed for the fact that I mentioned GOW1.5, which was just a joke. I do have to say though, as a big fan of Gears, I am slightly disappointed by this sneak peek. But hey, I'm willing to accept that it's mainly my fault for having unreal expectations (no pun intended).

Go read the Gears of War 2 Real-Emergence thread on GAF and get back to me. I didn't say that GSY was as bad, only that it was getting there. If you go back and read the past 10 pages, 80% of the posts are about game X or game Y, or how this game is disappointing compared to this other game, or this other game is disappointing compared to this game. It's ridiculous, in my opinion.

I agree and disagree at the same time. It was a great piece of gameplay to show off the action of the game, it REALY is intense. Much more so than the original.

But if they wanted to show off graphics it wasn't a good one. Way too hectic, when you watch some good caps/stills from the trailer you'll see that it is indeed breathtaking. I for one had to watch twice, first time for the action, next time looking at the graphics. I hope they still have these city levels with huge buildings. And I like them to pull of a level that is much like the first GoW in engine target render we ever saw (Mad World), with these graphics (just because I think it's well possible this time). Now that'd blow me away completly, in terms of graphics at least.

Well, yeah, but then it's not really pre alpha to me ! Both R2 and GoW2 are both beta at least, and they've shown a quite polished level of GoW2. I'm really sick with all the pre alpha, 40% complete BS... like KZ2, 40% complete, is gonna be releasaed in 2011 ? Well 3 years since E3 2005, 40%...
Gears is looking amazingly polished, the framerate is buttersmooth, that's great ! And KZ2 is looking great as well !
Anyway, eventhough this trailer looks great, I don't want the game to look that way, I would miss Gears1's gameplay, this trailer looks way too scripted, CoD4 for me

Gears of War single handedly destroyed all hype of the PS3 Launch. Now KZ2 looking like the superstar of Sony Technology gets few days in the spot light only to be stripped of its hyped by Gears of War 2.

Both shooters
Both exclusive to their respective console
Both at the bleeding edge of 3D graphics.

It's hard to say they are not Swords and Shield of MS and Sony
