A Plague Tale: Innocence is a fantastic game we enjoyed thoroughly back when it was released but it is now back on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with a welcome 60 fps framerate. On Playstation 5, the image looks rather soft, making us wonder if the game really hits 4K, but we can say for sure that it seems to be taking great advantage of the DualSense, at least vibration wise. You may have forgotten about it, but Osobo's title also comes out on Nintendo Switch today, via a cloud version obviously.

I watched some comparison videos on Youtube. I was rather disappointed of the image quality. One video compared the Xbox One X version with the Series X version and the One X had a better drawing distance and a sharper image if I am not mistaken. I mean 60 FPS is fine but at least we should get the same image quality. Is there no more checkerboard rendering?

But we have better more clear shadows now and there is more intense ambient occlusion.

Not sure if the resolution is worse now but the cloth texture on Amicia look a bit softer now. But this could also be motion blur...

If you want better sharpness you can also lower the chromatic aberration within the game settings. Personally I am not a fan of this feature.

Xbox Series X and PS5 version also has less grass than Xbox One X

Digital Foundry has reviewed the next gen version now too. My guesses were not that bad. Same resolution (1440p reconstructed to 4K), 60 FPS, less drawing distance than Xbox One X (less grass), better shadows, better ambient occlusion and motion blur for Xbox Series X and PS5.

It's cool that this game is getting an overhaul in how it looks... ✨
The world building and storytelling is great too overall, so I'm planning to get this soon. 😊
