Trailer Xbox 360 PS3

Namco-Bandai released this epileptic trailer of Ace Combat Assault Horizon. From the looks of it, the game's atmosphere seems to share more similarities with the Modern Warfare games than with the previous Ace Combat titles.

Almost to the point of just calling it a Call of Duty flight sim!

Bloody screen SO REAL

the story in Ace Combat games has been like this since Ace Combat 4 on PS2...way before CoD got popular

Perhaps. But the presentation of this trailer has a COD vibe.

Um no, AC04 still knew the word "subtle" and the game had a very restrained way of delivering the plot, especially in comparison to its sequels. Storytelling of the series has taken a deep plunge since then and has steadily become worse with AC6 marking the obvious low point of the series. Oh and the series never picked up themes like the middle eastern conflict or terrorism before, as the trailer of the new game suggests, or themes which could be related to present conflicts in general. It always depicted totally fictional wars (with slight hints on WWII maybe) in a very idealized way with way too much pathos in it, which isn't exactly smart but made it much more bearable for me than any game, which tries to depict actual conflicts. While the former is cheesy at worst (so much, that you normally can't take it serious anymore), the latter often ends up delivering questionable political views imo.

Low point was Ace Combat 5....so much J-drama...chopper, the annoying girl...argh the game's story was AWFUL

BTW I wasn't insulting AC4's story, the game's method of story telling is AMAZING! But the actual story is the usual warfare affair....blah blah war, blah blah secret weapon, blahaha yellow 13

Jup, the ace turning the tides of war and a peaceful country being attacked by it's neighbour is the standardplot of the series for some reason. Don't know why they never changed it after AC04 or why they seem to swap or combine this now more than generic concept with another generic one, but whatever. And as cheesy as AC5 was, i found it much more bearable than AC6 which was not only stupid but also boring as f..k. Also the mission design was weaker than that of its ps2 prequels i think.

I remember that the only thing I liked about AC6 story was that it actually showed both views of the war. The invaders weren't some mindless barbarians slaughtering everyone in their path, they had reasons for what they did.

Would make it quite distinct from the generic Call of duty concept if they would do this again.

Damnit. They should go apeshit crazy with futuristic super weapons and forget about making it realistic. That's what gave the game its charms. I loved the "Death Star" style final level of Ace Combat 4.

Story looks fairly standard but as a long time fan of the series I am really only interested in how well the new gameplay changes work. If it plays as dynamic and cool as it looks I could give a shit if the cut scenes were done with claymation.
