We must confess we have not said much about After Burner Climax since it was announced. Planned for release on Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network in the very near future, here are then all the images that have been shown so far.
While I love flight combat games, this game sucks. From start to finish in the arcade... this game takes about 15 minutes to finish. You have no control over where you fly, it is on rails and the action is so fast... you are just guessing that you shot something down.
Flight combat is my favorite genre, this game feels as if you are watching a short film that has been sped up to 120fps. It is like Dragons Lair, but with less feeling of control.
I don't think you get it, it's afterburner, it doesn't matter if it sucks, it's nostalgia. Personally I hate it. And whose idea was it to call it Afterburner Climax, it sounds like something that you'd get from going with a cheap hooker.

At least you would have some control over the hooker. :)

You just described every Afterburner game that came before (except that one where you feel like you're going 10 mph)
I think they did a smart move releasing it on the networks instead of boxed, as I think some of us had discussed there's no way to really flesh out an Afterburner game to a full priced release for todays crowd.
I am a huge fan of the Ace Combat games but I think people complaining about this are missing the point completely, it was never intended to be a sim but an upgrade of the frenetic sprite game of yesteryear where you can launch an infinite number of missiles and gain point combos for the most lock ons. Its a score driven shooter designed to test twitch reflexes, not show off whether you know what a split S or immelmann turn are.
As a downloadable game it is a perfect fit for quick pick up and play sessions to try to rack up a new high score and the over the top speed is all part of the appeal for me, definite download unless the price takes the piss which I doubt it will.

I think it looks pretty cool and if they release a demo (on PSN), then I'll be sure to try it out.
