GSY Video PC Xbox One

Until davton finds the time to capture some Xbox One X gameplay and a new HDR video, here's some 4K action in the PC version of Crackdown 3. Despite it's many shortcomings, the game remains fun to play, but we find it hard to forgive its 2007 design - and its stuttering problems...
Update: As our videos had severe sound issues, we recorded some new 4K gameplay with extreme graphics settings.

Yeah, I've been reading the Crackdown Reddit and the game has a lot of technical issues. And the game design is based on Crackdown 1. For example, there's no Sprint button, which isn't necessary when your Agility level is high, but until then you're basically walking/jogging, which makes you take more time than you should have.

Still, many people are having a ton of fun with the game, for those lucky enough that the game works. The way I look at Crackdown 3 is the way I look at very fun to play retro games, even if the design is old, as long as it's fun, it's still much better than many modern games that just bore you to tears - looking at Valkyria Chronicles 4, damn that game is tedious.

"Despite it's many shortcomings, the game remains fun to play,"

interesting. they picked a good engine for generating physics. the issue remains poor content execution. and it is a bit underwhelming visually for UE4 standards.

Damn, the video makes a great showing on how much it captures Crackdown fun and why its such a unique blast to play compared to open world derivative shit like
just Cause/ReFactionGuerrila where the by the number shooting/mobility brings it all down.

They should be showing this instead of the whole shitty demoing/ pr videos of late.

Now I wish I had a decent PC/xbX to play this.

it even has a bit of those explosive death/stuns/ragdoll physics where you are blasted away and have to wait a bit.

So this is what MS generated hype for over the period of near 5 years of development?! For fuck sake!

Shambles.

I've just played Crackdown 3 for over 7 hours straight, the game is really fun and addictive once you get past the first 1-2 hours. Like many people have said, this is a straight sequel, not a reboot and the developers were only concerned with making it as close as possible to the original Crackdown, while adding very few new ideas and improvements.

The graphics do look bad and the game design is of the previous generation of consoles, however, like many people have said: the game is just pure fun. To put it more precisely, it's just dumb stupid fun, but it's a hell of a lot of dumb stupid fun. For whatever that's worth.

Best way to look at Crackdown 3 is how dated it feels to play Super Mario Bros. 1, 3, World or 64; The Legend of Zelda: A Link to The Past, Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask; Final Fantasy 1-9, etc. Of course those are all great games and they were released decades ago, however the game design in them is very old, but they're still a lot of fun to play even today.

Crackdown 3 is like the original, perhaps slightly better, or slightly worse depending on the person. But you can pay $1 for 1 month of Game Pass, or $2 for 2 months. No need to invest $60 if you're unsure, basically, it's "free" in a way, and you get to play dozens upon dozens of other games as well. So for the price required to play it, it's a steal. No harm in at least checking it out and make your own conclusions.

Fucking embarrassing. I can't get over how shit it is. This should have been the sequel to the first game 10 years ago. It has no place in 2019.

All of the things that made Crackdown novel back then are no longer novel. The idea of high mobility and superhero action in an open world game is anything but new, and it's been expanded on and eclipsed many times since it was new.

I can relate with people those who think this game is fun like the original game. I love POP games and would love if Ubisoft to make POP games again or at least remake the classic 3 POP games. At the end of the day that is what matter irrespective how much money it makes or what reviews or others think about the game. As long as you are having fun.

Having said that I think the original crackdown back then was mediocre and this probably is no better either.

Agreed. But I spent some time last night thinking of why I was having so much fun, and the Platforming and Jumping is one of the reasons why - the Shooting is the other. They just nailed the Jumping and Platforming, you have absolute control over the character`s actions just like with a Super Mario or Super Meat Boy, where if you fail, it`s your fault.

So while I agree with you that those things have been expanded and reiterated many times, they haven`t been perfected. Crackdown 3 isn`t perfect either, but I can`t think of a single game that does what it does better. Surprisingly, I prefer the Platforming in Crackdown 3 much more than the one in Super Mario 3D World, which I played with my nephew last weekend. But I believe that`s one of the worst Mario games when it comes to Platforming.

I actually agree with you, this game is average at best in most areas, except for Platforming and Shooting, where it excels by a lot. I guess it will appeal to people who can have fun with just those things, even if everything else is average. To be fair, any reviewer who gave this a bad or average score is not wrong. It`s an average game, but one that many people can have a ton of fun with.

Not sure how a game that doesn’t require you to actually aim can be excelling in the shooting department? Literally every single review marks it’s shooting as a negative aspect of it’s design. It’s utterly skill-less. You pull the left trigger then hold right trigger until the enemy is dead. Rinse/repeat. Yes you can fine tune your aim to body parts like the original, but the game doesn’t have the hit reactions or consequences of those reactions to make it worthwhile. Plus enemies die so fast anyway that you can easily progress using the basic body lock on.

The jumping is still satisfying. But the orb layouts are not, they’ve opted for quantity over quality, so unlike the first crackdown where agility orbs were a fun, well thought out incentive to explore, now they feel like feathers in an assassins creed game...just another game with another form of collectathon garbage to pick up. And the actual act of climbing has changed so little it’s still absolute crap!

It feels like a game that was developed in a vacuum, with no regard to any developments that have happened in the industry since 2007. It’s literally this years duke nukem forever. It feels like a relic.
