Video PC

Crytek finally released the long awaited DirectX11 patch for Crysis 2 but they also added a whole patch dedicated to HD textures. On the highest settings and 1080p, the framerate goes from 60 fps to 24 fps on my PC, a high price to pay to have new cool effects. Is it worth it? I'll let you decide and compare with the videos we made when the game was first released.
Update: DirectX 11 Ultra Upgrade Trailer added.

The funny thing about these patches (1.9 patch and the dx11 patch) + HD textures, is that PC-gamers were so mad that Crysis 2 didn't have this at release. Before the dx11 patch, Crysis 2 looked amazing on PC and it was very well optimised so a lot of people were able to play the game at very high or extreme. But now they get what they wanted (the dx11) and now most people begin to complain it doesn't run that well anymore on their PC. It's like Crytek can't do anything good anymore in their eyes. What did they expect? That the new patch on ultra settings + HD textures were going to run as good as in dx9?
Anyhow: the improvements are pretty amazing, but it causes a pretty hefty performance hit. Crytek really pushed the game that far that it has become the new benchmark in dx11 pc-gaming and crushes most PC's.
That's why gaming IMO is stagnant atm, this generation of gamers are a bunch of whining spoilt brat's who think they should have everything their own way.

Horrible argument, for one anyone who begged for DirectX 11 and didn't know they're setup wasn't good enough are idiots. A lot of the people who wanted it have setups to are more than enough for Crysis 2.

It doesn't take a huge system to run Crysis 2 on max with DX11.

The video above is of a GTX 560 ti running it on max with no problems (Card runs about $200).

You must also install the 1.9 patch. If you did, then I don't know. :/

I patched it to 1.9 and then installed the texture pack, its there but its greyed out, very annoying.

My card isnt full DX11, probably DX 10.1 or something (from what I read) so the texture pack is something I definitely can run but I cant activate it :(

And all they had to do to avoid mass outcry and most pc gamers bashing their game and not buying it is to add all this with the release as an extra performance option... But no! It was very hard to do right away, they better get bad reputation. Too late crytek, I'm affraid, C2 is a good game but I don't think I care about this game anymore.

Mods or not, the first Crysis has gotten incredibly close to photo-realistic graphics, i very much doubt the second one will top that, and for me vanilla Crysis still looks better than Crysis 2.

Can't really agree there. The first vid had tons of DOF and a lot of extra camera movement, which will add a lot of realistic flair. As far as rendering, and I've played the original Crysis many times, I still think the C2 tops it, especially with the DX11 stuff. Poly counts are definitely higher in the second.
As far as the new patch- this is what I wanted from C2 from the beginning. The way the bricks on walls and around edges looks really adds a lot, not to mention how many more subtle reflections there are. I haven't gotten to play for more than a few minutes since the update, but I can still run the game well even with a slight (for me) hit in performance, and I've got a DX11 GTX 470.
@ Sath
You may not be able to use the High rez texture because the may be linked to their corresponding depth maps (displacements) and not having a DX11 card may be your issue...

I KNEW someone would post those videos as a reply.

Firstly they are mods. Secondly, what on Earth makes you think Cry Engine 2 can't do that or better? It can almost certainly do better as it is a newer version of the same engine with alot more technical capabilities.

That's purely the art direction. Crysis 2 perhaps looks more hyper-realistic than photo-realistic, in comparison to Crysis 1. But undoubtedly the tech present in Crysis 2 improves the visual fidelity over Crysis 1.
