Hmm, i'm not sure about DoA 4, the enviroments are stunning, but the characters are just lacking the detail any 360 game should have.

Hopefully the gameplay will rock the boat.

Why does that question have to be singled out on DOA4? Would you mind explaining why VF4, SC3, and Tekken 5 wouldn't be VF3.5, SC2.5, and Tekken 4.5 if they just have better graphics, more moves, characters, and environments?

DOA4 is supposively going to get a slight gameplay overhaul. It's based more on DOA3.2 which was never released in the U.S.

I think with fighting games theres only so much you can do over the years. The graphical improvements, control improvements, balance, moves, and level design. You can also create new modes, like when DOA introduced tag modes. Then there is improvements in the online play, wich DOA is king of. After all that, there isn't too much more you can do. In the interview with Itagiki at 1up.com, he seemed to say that this will be the last DOA fighting game because he has done everything possible.

IMO, most makers of these fighting games are scared or just to lazy to include anything new as the hardcore fans wont be happy.

Most fighting games are the same, its the same old boring stuff, i'm waiting on a beat em up that actually pushes the boundry of the genre. DOA, to be the first next gen fighter imo isnt much better then any beat em up on the current gen, Dissapointing, but i'm sure it'll be fun none the less

Tekken and VF should be judged separately because they are by far the most sophisticated and constantly evolving fighting game series on the market right now. The only two VFs that play similarly are 1 and 2, and even then, there's a huge gameplay difference between those two.

That said, whereas the notion that DoA has played the same in the past, it won't work this time around because DoA4 will probably be the biggest jump since DoA2 over the first one.

The reason as to why DoA hasn't changed alot can be applied to the fact that everything since 2 has been variations of that game. DoA3 was essentially an Xbox version of 2 that they decided to tune up more than planned, and Ultimate goes back to 2 thoroughly since people felt that DoA3 was too dumbed down. So basically we have been playing 2 for all these years (provided you've played them) and this could actually be considered the first true sequel.

For the untrained eye and even for a pair of untrained hands grabbing the controller and mashing some for half an hour, most fighting games in a series feel roughly the same simply because they do have a fundamental base that they build upon (although I doubt even untrained hands feel that way with VF3 and 4) and that's really not a bad thing. It ensures that there is a core in there that keeps the series true to itself, and that's always gonna be the reason why hardcore players prefer their fighting game of choice. Suggestions that you should be able to pick objects up and hit eachoter with or jump into vehicles (stuff I've actually heard during my sometimes painful gaming life) is utterly rediculous, and nobody who truly respects the series would want that.

I agree to some extent with what Trup said about fighting games only being able to change so much in that to the casual observer it would appear that nothing ever changes. It isn't really a problem for the game itself, on the contrary, but it does sort of feed this notion that the developers are milking their cows, when in fact they're putting tremendous amounts of work into each game, though that is to varying degrees depending on which game series you refer to.

At the end of the day, DoA4 will be quite different, fans will notice, casual observers will at the most scratch their heads and whine some more about the lack of self shadowing.

That's another point to be made really, if the graphics were hugely different, people would probably get the impression that it's changed even if it's the exact same game underneath. I've already written a way too big post though, and I think food's ready so I'll just scamper off now.

Tekken has been awful for a while now, and VF doesnt see nearly enough action
If it werent for DOA, the Tekken games wouldnt have any competition, same could be said for Soul Calibur
But DOA and Soul Calibur rule the 3d fighting realm now I would say pretty easily

i'm not trying to single out doa and i must admit i like doa very much, I got doa 2 from microsoft for free because i bought the original xbox when the price was still 499 or something.. i played this game ALLOT and i loved it. BUT when the new DOA came i didn't think it was all that... Same game... same graphics, the only thing they added we're some moves, outfits and stages....

Now if I take for example Soul Calibur (wich is a weapon fighting game but bare with me) this shit is totally different. With Soul Calibur 2 u get an Adventure mode that took A VERY LONG TIME and was actually very nice to keep playing. ALLOT of characters (i'll never think doa will have that many characters) and some really nice graphics coupled with really great levels and gameplay mechanics this fighting game actually brought some new stuff to the fighting genre especially with the new Soulcalibur 3 coming up where u can make your own fighter now that's something i've never seen before in a fighter game..... i'm not singleing DOA out cause there are other fighters who are like DOA but i must say DOA is the game where i get the most idea of it just being a graphical upgrade....

i'm not saying it doesn't matter, i just think it's a waste of my money buying the same game with upgraded graphics (for example the fifa series is also a waist of money), refer to my "bigger" post up top....

I have high hopes for DOA4, being a DOA fan since HC on the PS2. DOA2 really was the most significant in terms of freshness and innovation.

It's looking good and it seems obvious to me that we can't really tell how good until we see it in action. Screen shots just don't do it. And of course, the gameplay revamp can't be seen at all.

I am concerned that I haven't seen a lot of interactive stage drops this time around. Story mode probably won't be revamped significantly which is also too bad, though Itagaki made reference to a new mysterious mode in one interview.

I'm sure I'll always want them to shake it up more, but can't really judge 'till I play it.

If the gameplay is the same as other Dead or Alive games then i'd rather flush this game down the toilet then putting it in my Xbox 360. I bought DOA: Ultimate some time ago and the gameplay is about the worst iv'e ever experienced in a fighting game. Thought i probably just had to get use to it a bit but after playing the game the whole night long i brought it back to the store first thing in the morning. The whole fighting system just completely sucks.

Yes, its DOA3.5. Team Ninja and Itagacki are lazy nerds who only focus on boob bounce, and not even that looks good.

1. DOA:U looks leaps and bounds better than DOA3.
2. DOA:U had online play which was a first.
3. Soul Calibur 1 had an adventure mode just like SC2, nothing new there.
4. Between SC, VF and DOA. DOA is still the only one with online play and interactive environments.
5. Soul Calibur does NOT have more characters than DOA. Plus most of the characters in Soul Calibur are palet swaps.
6. Please stop commenting on DOA because you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.
