Atleast DMC 1-3 embraced it's japanese anime silliness roots, all this conversion of Dante to a western version of a social pariah goind against "The Man" that really isn't anything more than demigods controling the society is just a bunch of bullshit clichés that sound as cliché as the Holliwoodzation of most oriental movies

Sounds pretty consistent with the previous DMC games:
DmC - A government corrupted by demonic influence.
DMC4 - A religious order corrupted by demonic influence.
DMC2 - An international public corporation corrupted by demonic influence.
DMC1 - (Deceased) castellans corrupted by demonic influence.

Hard to take this new Dante serious... but no doubt a "new" fanbase will buy this game... not me though... the game seems too pretentious and having played Ninja Theory's games I am kind of sick of how they just keep jumping around making one shots instead of building on what they have made... really wish they would have made a second Heavenly Sword by now... and that other game was kind of forgettable... this one is just wow... people are right to feel disappointed or mad.

Lolwut? DMC3 Dante was great. He was his usual chipper self. Sure he was pulling a liquid snake (shirtless trench coat getup) but he was far from emo. As for DmC (revamp) the current character design is actually alright. The initial one they had was terri-emo-femmish( http://www.gamersyde.com/pop_images_devil_may_cry-...) , but his current incarnation isn't terrible...its just not Dante.
As a side note: I'm glad they didn't try to pull off Trish.
DMC3 Dante was a typical high school metal punk kid, dont like that crap, emo or not, just annoying design all over.
Now DMC4 and 2 Dante was way better IMO interms of personality, experience, age and character designs, but then again I like the ones that are more older and experienced, because you know they will do some serious asskicking.
I hear ya Sath, DMC2/DMC4 Dante's were the best visually. DMC2 Dante was a bit too sobre of personality though. Why on earth devs think we dont like to play the characters we know and love will forever be a mystery to me. Nero just irritated me.
Look at Ninja Gaiden, after so many years he is still the same, designwise...same goes to Kratos. Thats how you do it, once people love a certain character design and personality, you dont fiddle with it. There are other ways to do so, but dont do it to the character.
Now I dont remember much of DMC2, but I really love his design. His face looked like he belongs in a Castlevania game and his trenchoat was awesome, reminds me of Neo's trenchcoat from Matrix Reloaded and Revoltions, love it!

I disagree. Sometime its for the better, like the new Lara Croft.
Sometimes, but iconic characters like Ryu, Kratos and Dante is not.
Lara Croft needed a change, the old design was ugly, looked like amateur design. New one looks fantastic, best female character design IMO.
