No real progress graphic wise but I remain confident that the gameplay will be another step forward. But still, as I always say, it's a waiting game for now!

Wow these football sims always looks great in screenshots, so what happens then (EA and Konami), this is far from what I see in game, sue them for false advertising :).

After reading the very first hands-on preview, I already know which football game I'll be picking up this year.

FIFA 10 is sounding absolutely fantastic.

The pictures I seen elesewhere seem to show that EA have improved the sharpness and the lighting in the game by a noticable degree. Besides, there is another 4-5 months before we see this complete and they are concentrating on gameplay aspects first, as they did with 09, so expect it to look very polished visually over last years when it hits.

Oh, and they seem to be tweaking the player likeness. I see they've added a few pounds to Wazza. Spot on, EA. Sure he's a fat bastard anyway.

Shrek 3-in-a-row league titles you mean.

As opposed to 3 years without a trophy at all. ;)

Who's that in your avatar? Isn't he soon-to-be a Inter/Liverpool player. Feels unwanted by the fans he says.

Viva Barca.

Indeed, but they came close this year, and that seems to make them happy :D

I might pick up fifa 10, i keep sayin it every year and end up just not bothering. Theres just something about knowing that next years game will be better still, plus some of the likenesses are still a bit off, they improve but they aint quite there yet. You would think they would nail a few teams each year so they dont have to revisit them the next time, but its always these miniscule improvements to all teams.

Just so people are aware, the NDA has officially been lifted and some hands-on previews of FIFA 10 have been posted. The best one available is probably at FSB (Fifa Soccer Blog):

Awesome, awesome, awesome.

It's all about the gameplay and different modes this year. Graphics are in place and will only need a slight improvement.

Alonso's the reason you came so close to winning the league this year. All the headlines are usually about Torres and Gerrard, but it's the Spanish midfield maestro who has been the base of your league success; his creativity and passing skills are among the best in the Premier League.

Anyway, back on topic. I don't think people should underestimate how significant the 360 degree movement is in the context of football gams. Heck, it's arguably one of the biggest things to happen since football games became 3D.

That alone means that FIFA is likely to trump PES this year.

instead of charging us each year to pay full price for what could arguably be offered as a patch, i really wish EA would work towards a 2 year release schedule, instead of every year.

2yrs would allow them to work on a new engine (they could finally sort out the frame rate drops in replays), and new animation - it may even offer them time to get Rooneys face looking actually like him.

Fifa 09 was a huge success.. its still very much alive with the online community on the 360. And with the free auto update for the prem.. do we really need a new fifa this year?

Spot on. My thoughts exactly. It's this and this alone that will make PES look rather embarrassing and could just completely kill the series dead once and for all. Having seen PES and it's images, I'm not impressed. In fact, it's a joke once again. Same animations means the same old tired shit. It's merely an update of what was a terrible game last year, whereas Fifa 10 is making revolutions in gameplay yet again. I said it two years ago and was laughed at. Now here it is. Fifa 10 the PES killer. Before anyone jumps in and says "have you played it yet", I don't have to. My feelings were right about Fifa 09 after hearing the promises EA made and delivered on. Same goes for this year. The 360 degree movement is something I could only dream about having that degree of control over a player in a football game. Now it's possible. Getting the ball to skillful wingers and trying to weave your way past two or three defenders in the box will be a joy to behold and seriously addicting.

Yeah but teams change, players come through, strips change, leagues change, just those aspects plus a lot more mean that they can continue to milk the franchise with a new game each year and will do, continuously for many, many years. Players look no visibly different from 09 as far as I can tell, I don't see why they also make shots of the players this early with what will be old strips on but never mind. Still waiting for a couple of new obvious things to be added, for example managers, would quite like to see SAF chewing frantically on his gum after I score a beauty against Man Utd.

Are you nuts? Work on a new engine? What for? It took EA 4 years to develop this engine and another to get it to where it is at now. The engine was built specifically to expand and grow and only now will the benifits be reaped. No one had any complaints when PES was being released year after year, because we all knew that when a new one came there would be gameplay innovations making it worth it. The difference between 08 and 09 was night and day, and the same will apply for this one likewise. That kind of evolution in gameplay for me warrants a purchase of a new title every year. Why? Simply because it's worth it, that's why. A year is a long time for development teams. It's long enough.

Exactly what is so wrong with those faces? Explain. Because to me, they pretty much look like their counterparts. Put it this way, the claims that PES has better faces is a myth. They too can look fucked up, particularly from certain angles. The good thing about Fifa's faces is that they are pretty much accurate from whatever angle they are viewed at. Well, at least a good few of them are. There are still a good lot that EA need to sort out, but your Kaka's, Gerrard's, Torres', Robin's, Xabi Alonso's, etc etc, they all look pretty much picture perfect.

You're kidding right? You said players change, managers are even worse nowadays. So much turnaround and so many managers in and out of jobs all season.

It would literally be Fergie and Wenger (and maybe David Moyes) who would be worth rendering in the Premiership.

Team members change yes.. but thats why people signed on for the transfer updating. Kits change yes.. but if you listen to the streamed pod casts they've already told us that we'll be getting addidas kits for free i believe. And again kits only need take a patched update charged for a fiver - rather than £39 for a new game with them in.
