Life is Strange: Before the Storm is a prequel to DONTNOD's acclaimed episodic adventure game that will debut on August 31. Developed by Deck Nine Games (formerly Idol Minds), the three chapters of the game take place three years before the events of the main game. CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED, AWARD-WINNING SERIES RETURNS WITH LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM
Brand New Three-Part Episodic Adventure Arrives on August 31

LONDON (June 11, 2017) – SQUARE ENIX®, publisher of award-winning and best-selling videogame franchises such as FINAL FANTASY® and TOMB RAIDER®, today announced LIFE IS STRANGE™: BEFORE THE STORM, the next game in the award-winning, multi-million copy selling, episodic franchise. The game was unveiled with a new cinematic trailer as part of the Xbox E3 Briefing and the first of three episodes will be released on Xbox One®, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and Windows PC on August 31, 2017.

LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM is set in Arcadia Bay, three years before the events of the first game in the series. Players will take on the role of a rebellious 16 year-old Chloe Price who forms an unlikely friendship with Rachel Amber; a beautiful and popular girl destined for success. When Rachel’s world is turned upside down by a family secret, it takes this new-found alliance to give each other the strength to overcome their demons.

“LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM is a key release for Square Enix this year and is being created as a direct response to fans asking to return to Arcadia Bay so they can revisit the characters they fell in love with,” said Lee Singleton, Head of Studio at Square Enix London Studios. “Many people can identify a particular person who significantly influenced their life; the person that ultimately shaped who they became. LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM is about this exact moment.”

Whilst the first released game in the series was created by DONTNOD Entertainment in Paris, LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM is being developed by Denver based studio, Deck Nine Games.

“The original LIFE IS STRANGE brought a new level of depth and real-world emotion to the narrative adventure game genre and holds a strong place in many people’s hearts, including our own,” said Jeff Litchford, Vice President at Deck Nine Games. “It’s an absolute privilege to work on the next game in the series and it’s our chance to do justice to the series and prove the quality of our unique StoryForge toolset from our very talented team.”

Thanks for all of you guys' hardwork!

BlimBlim, this is your chance to chime in. Tell us what you thought of the game after watching the trailer and images. I'm very excited for this, I just know that I will play the hell out of this.

First by itself, then when Life is Strange 2 comes out, I will just do a timline playthrough: Before the Storm > LiS1 > LiS2. I hope Deck Nine Games does a great job. And by what I've seen, I believe they're on a good track.

toelessfoot Right. I think programmable shaders were adopted fairly early on consoles (xbox360/ps3) (2 Days ago)

  • MrWhite

MrWhite @toelessfoot: Well, only recently they have been. I think this is the first gen I've seen where PC's are playing catch up. Not through hardware power, but through development cycles (2 Days ago)

  • toelessfoot

toelessfoot Yeah I think innovations on the console side are taken up more quickly by PC than vice versa because consoles are really lead platform for everything (2 Days ago)

  • MrWhite

MrWhite At least for most gamers. Similar to when everything went to pci-e (3 Days ago)

  • MrWhite

MrWhite I think we could be seeing a dramatic shift in PC hardware where it'll be essential to own both an SSD and a next gen card with the api's to use them. That also would probably require new motherboards (3 Days ago)

  • MrWhite

MrWhite If a game is built from the ground up to take advantage of that, though... (3 Days ago)
