It's not real (as in this is a render, not actual life). If you look at the tail of the horse, you can see some polygons. The real statue would be smooth. And the top of the building (center area) doesn't look completely real. It looks like a bump map.
So...If this can fool anyone into thinking it is real, then Microsoft is doing good things.
I don't think anyone thought this was a pic of real life (atleast I hope not). When people say "real" and "fake", they are referring to "in-game" and "mock-up/render" respectively.
This does look stunning though, and I'd be willing to bet it's game engine. Seeing what Epic has been able to do with UE3, I'd be disappointed if 2nd party developers couldn't pull this level of graphical quality off, to tell you the truth.
