Final Fantasy XIII on March 9

Trailer Xbox 360 PS3

Now this is a nice surprise. Square-Enix just announced that Final Fantasy XIII would be released in Europe and NA on March 9 on both PS3 and Xbox 360. 3 months between the Japanese release and the European one certainly is a big improvement over the last generation! And as a way to make sure people would remember today, they also released this images, along with a new trailer.

Nicely done! That is one classy release date announcement trailer. I haven't played through a jrpg in a loooonnng time, but I'm looking forward to this one. As long as the characters and story turn out well, I'm in.

@omniscient- Q1 is indeed going to be fun, although GT5 won't be out until Q2 most likely for EU and US. It's only Q1 in Japan. And I'm not sure if you don't own a 360 but don't forget about Mass Effect 2 and Splinter Cell.

It's been a long wait, and those few months left will go by in a flash. I'm really anticipating this and it's nice that we won't have to wait too long for the westernized versions.

But the original japanese voiceovers would still have been nice. It's been hard to convince myself that I'll enjoy the game even without them.

Trailer nicely done, casting not so. Oh well, as long as that guy isn't in the game, it shouldn't matter too much.

I especially liked the music guy trying to spit out English corporate-speak about the pop song that's going to be in the game. The combination of English-as-a-second-language with the unnaturalness of PR-talk makes that one of the most forced monologues I think I've ever seen.

By hyping up XIII this much, and saying how everyone gets better, are they just telling us to wait for the next FF, and after that, the next one? j/k of course. FFV was the best there was, until VI, and VII, and VIII, and IX, and X, and X2, and XI, and.....And FFXIII is going to be the best ever, until FFXIV, which will be the best until FFXV, and so on....That's why it's important to sell something on its own terms, and not say how things are getting better and better.

a Bit of a cheesy trailer but loved the ending from when they started showing the new gameplay footage. Can anyone DARE now and criticize the graphics ?

Pretty silly video and whoever thought it was a good idea needs firing. But.. great news it's coming sooner than expected. I just wish Square would stop trying to Westernise it so much by stripping it of the original voice cast and song.

So that definitely meant March 9th? I know that in many countries they write the dates as day/month/year. But in the US that would look like September 3rd. Has SE actually said March 9th or is everyone going by this trailer?

ebola9717, I tried to find anything official besides the trailer to give you confidence, but I haven't found anything so far... I don't know if it's the rule, but isn't a date in the day/month/year format written with periods? For example, 09.03.2010 would mean March 9th, and 09/03/2010 would mean September 3rd. I'm not sure at all but I think that's how the two date formats are usually distinguished from one another.
Also, the "English" date format should be year/month/day instead of month/day/year, if you want to do it the right way... if I recall my English lessons correctly, been a long time... EDIT: Ah, the date format here on Gamersyde is also year/month/day. See? ^__^

Besides that, all the major news sites like Kotaku say that FFXIII will release on March 9th. Square Enix wouldn't let such a colossal misunderstanding happen, would they?

HHmmm quote me wrong if it's the case (actually it may be, because i don't like FF and may be a little late on the news), but didn't they release a trailer sometime last year saying "SIMULTANEOUS WORLDWIDE RELEASE", doesn't that include Japan? As i said, maybe i was late on some news splitting the release dates for Japan and the rest of the world, simultaneous release worldwide seemed too good to be true for a JRPG.

Now, what is this date supposed to mean anyway? September third or March ninth? My birthday is on March tenth so i may be getting this and Lost Odissey (i want to compare both of them :3) which i've holded off from getting. I just hope FFXIII is worth buying (aside from saciating my need of comparing it to LO).

That video is rather... odd (not going to stop me from buying the game, however). I'm very glad they gave a release date. Can't wait to get this game.

Japan isn't included in the "Worldwide release"; the "Worldwide release" is the english-translated version.

Wow that was rather awful.
The views of the developer are okay but this mindless PR talk of this announcer (never heard those lines before…) and gimmicks make it… simply awful.
Now they are so desperate to cooperate with some I don’t give fuck pop star to boost the sales of her album or their game? – What a pathetic exploit of either sides popularity. Especially since it is apparently used to “desjapanese” the game further.
I’m well aware that the USA is now the most important video game market but aside a translation, because I don’t speak their damn language, I want to experience the game as the designer imagined it and not like some PR or manager asshole thinks it will sell best.

That was so misleading u_u i really thought at the time that we were going to get the game in time for once. It's like one day all of a sudden, Epic announced they partnered with Tecmo and that they would bring Ryu Hayabusa to online multiplayer worldwide for the next GoW, and then a year after they said "sorry, worldwide doesn't include USA, we are getting Master Chief", which would be awesome anyway... BUT STILL MISLEADING AND EVIL!
