The two don't seem all too comparable to me. They very obviously are offering up different experiences. I'm way looking forward to playing the shit out of both though.
Why not have the player be able to figure it out on the first go, instead of trial-and-error? Isn't that the worst kind of challenge?
This section feels cheap if you're given NO hint to run away, unless through trial-and-error you find out the Octopus monsters are insta-kill. A better way would be to show a fellow Snake monster not get away and get murdered by the Octopus in 1 hit, so through your observation you find out "hey, I should just stay away from those dudes!". Or maybe have a tutorial message on the ground saying to run away (maybe it'll be there in retail since they're not showing online right now?).
"For players who pick up this game for the 1st time, probably have to die a good HUNDRED times before they can figure out what we have to do". I hope he's joking, like asking if you're man enough for this game, instead of actually discouraging players like FF 13 did where it only gets good after 10 hours.

Definitely; they'll both be awesome for different reasons. Really couldn't say one is better than the other when they both offer something so different - even if they are, strictly speaking, within the same genre.

But i would like them to polish it a bit more. For instance, small things like killing that guard on the other side of the door. There should have been a QTE where you shove the weapon between the iron bars and kill him. Not just smash at the bars and pretend like it went through.
Perhaps the game this year i'm most anticipating. I've played alot of demon's souls (different builds, new game+ etc) so i don't expect any major difficulty problems, even though the devs says it's gonna be harder than demons. My experience is that every time a dev says that, the game ends up easier. Less spikes, more checkpoints etc.
I dare not to preorder but will instead wait for a proper comparison of the 360/ps3 versions before i decide on which version to get. I prefer the 360 pad, and got a better friendslist there. I know dark souls (if it's similar to demons) won't have much integration with your friendslist, but still, like in demons, there's probably some way to hook up despite the devs intents.
there were noticable framerate drops in demon souls at times... but those times were pretty rare and never made the game as a whole unplayable. I wouldnt worry about the framerate too much in this.. infact it would be the least of my concerns
