This is exactly what I am thinking.

I got a shit load of footage from GC of the Vita in action. It's a shame we have to wait until next year to get it. But most of the games look to be in a complete or near complete state already. So at least if most of the games that were shown off at GC are within the Vita's 90-day launch window, this is going to be the single best portable launch in history. Well worth the $250 and the unfortunate, extended wait until next spring. It'll feel so nice to finally have a proper portable game system again.

The Vita is damned near HD. The screen itself has a resolution of 960 × 544 pixels, which at 220 ppi, is physically larger than the 5" screen. So yeah, some pretty high res assets are needed, to fill all that. And these photos which show the game in it's native resolution, as well as condensed in a full-sized mock-up of the system, bear that out. And the 4-core SGX543MP4+ GPU in the Vita, can render images at a much higher resolution than that, even. So there is a lot of spare power there to really push the level of detail in Vita games to eye bleeding proportions as devs get more familiar with programming for it.
